All the signals are the same as factory, he only replaced the speakers. No signal processor involved. The Kappa's are rated at 2 ohm same as factory but undoubtedly much higher efficiency at 96db.

Thanks for the update. Very happy everything is complete and sounds good. Can't look at the pics here at work, but will when I get home.

I tought it wasnt a full range signal to the oem 6x9 speaker
What is the impedance of the oem 6x9 speaker of the alpine system?

Are the kappas the same impedance as the paper alpines?
Great q. The 6x9s definitely don't get cut off at the bottom (running woofer test they hit the lowest notes) - still trying to figure out if they get crossed over to the tweeters at the top end. Anyone know for sure? I've been trying to figure this out as I'm driving so I'm not sure if it is the 6x9 I'm really hearing or the 6.5" rear door speakers for the high end.

The Kappas are 2 ohm. I *think* I read somewhere that the Alpines are 2 ohm as well. Can anyone confirm?

Pretty sure there is a topic that has all the info on what signal's are where. I have the RamForumZ's etched in my brain though. I'm pretty sure the front 6x9's are clipped on the high end and therefore the coaxial speaker doesn't fully function. The high signal being sent to the A pillar tweeter. I was looking at mine yesterday saying it's a damn shame they have the side panel grille opening shaped for the 6x9. I would like to put a 6.5 component Kappa there. And of course the A pillar in the JGK is 3/4" NOT 1", the size of the component tweeter. My ram was though. Again not sure, I think the rear doors are full range signal, which would suit a 6x9 but I'd still prefer the 6.5 because the tweeter again is aiming at someone's hip, not where it should aim. Thinking I could maybe install those tweeters in the D pillar openings. Changing the A-pillar tweeters to soft dome Kappa's should smooth things out nicely. I haven't seen anyone do that yet. At $159.99 a pair I might could understand why. Infinity Kappa 10.11t 3/4" soft dome tweeters at Crutchfield.com

Do a little digging here on Jeep Garage and I'm sure you can come up with accurate info.

The Alpine system is 2 ohm.

Move the passenger seat from the Yo Boy position your wife leaves it in (LOL at least mine does) to forward and upright and you open up the soundstage considerably. You can also do a head check for lane changes without looking at the humongous headrest

Before you put in the tweeters, you might want to upgrade the other speakers first and give it a listen. Even if the 6x9s get cutoff (and I'm still somewhat unsure), the rear 6.5"s definitely don't. The Kappas have very, very strong treble output, some even complain that it is overwhelming. Right now, with the original tweeters, upgraded center speaker, upgraded door speakers it is strong but not overwhelming. I definitely don't boost the treble in the EQ/HU (I do boost the bass a bit). I considered something like this
but after hearing the result of the existing upgrades, I'm not going for it.

I would also not recommend swapping the front speakers to 6.5" as the 6x9s add to the bass output considerably, especially if you plan on sticking with an 8" sub (my pioneer sub upgrade is nice, but it is still an 8" shallow mount with no dedicated amp).

So why were the infinity kappas the pick for your replacements. Which other brands did you look at?

Several reasons.

1) Had the Infinity Gold system in my old ZJ and really liked it.

2) Everyone raves about the Harmon Kardon system, and of course HK is the parent co of Infinity. But HK really is the brand name for factory systems these days - you can't buy HK systems third party. Infinity seems like it fills that spot, with JBL targeting the "I'm young and want big bass and not to spend too much cash" group.

3) The Kappas got great reviews and the reviews basically said what I wanted to hear (great clarity, solid bass but not bass fart cannons). Also, good specs - the 6x9s went very low and given that I wasn't upgrading to above an 8" sub, the added bass would help.

4) 2Ohm speakers, high sensitivity. Given that I was keeping stock amp this was very important.

I considered some others, but the JBLs seemed like a crappier version of the Kappas. I didn't want anything Alpine after these "Alpine Premium" POS (note to manufacturers: if you put your name on a crappy product, people will avoid buying your supposedly good products when they go to replace it). I eliminated cheap options with worse specs/reviews - stuff like Kenwood and so on. Then I eliminated brands I knew nothing about. I was left pretty confident I was doing the right thing with the Kappas, and given the results I would say my logic was sound.

Installed the last two myself with Metra adapters. The first two were installed by Best Buy (I think they also used Metra adapters). BB charged me like $250 or something.

Re: Alpine Speakers to Infinity Kappas - Minimalistic Upgrade?

Why did you not change the pillar front tweeter? You bought the speakers and BB installed them? When you got your jeep back was the fit and finish the same. What was your opinion of their work?
