Re: Am I the only one who HATES the Garmin nav?

Sounds like operator error, or someone who thinks he is a power user because he never had or needed POI and routing capability. On the superficial level, it really doesn't matter. Use what you are comfortable with. If you are so narrow minded that you can'd adapt, you need to get yourself into a lexus as I don't think anyone is putting the POS Lexus nav in an aftermarket unit.

The Garmin in the jeep it handicapped by a slow processor and relatively low screen resolution. You didn't notice that in the Lexus as it was so simple, not much in the way of features or more advanced capabilities.

Anyway if you ever adapt, there is no going back.

I mean you can put lipstick on a navigation pig and call it a Lexus, but its still a pig

Re: Am I the only one who HATES the Garmin nav?

LOL, why do you have to be so defensive? Just because someone finds something thats not 100% wonderful with your precious Jeep? Its just a car. Hell...its not even about the car...its just a navigation system. I think the rest of the Jeep is great, but if I had it to do over again I would have gotten a limited and the 730 nav.

I would consider someone who has used GPS systems for 10 years and uses it every single day a power user. I use POIs in the Lexus from time to time and they work fine. No better or worse than those in the Jeep. I'm a technologically savvy person, its not about adapting, its about not being satisfied with the system and believing it to be poor quality. Sorry. You said yourself it has a slow processor and a low quality screen. Poor quality.

What kind of advanced features do I need? Simple is good...I need it to let me type in a destination or lists of destinations, and route me there. Have never needed it to do anything more. Advanced capabilities don't mean anything to me if the basic usability of the system is flawed.

Already have a Lexus...obviously...and WTF do I care if people put it in an aftermarket unit?!?

On my 430n, if I click the next-song switch on the steering wheel, it goes immediately to the next song. I haven't looked for a next button on the touch screen; I need to keep my eyes on the road.

Re: Am I the only one who HATES the Garmin nav?

Personally, I love my 430N. OK, not love, but it's pretty good. It's certainly one of the better units, and the nav works very well. It's far better than the 730N IMO, and I've not experienced any of the delay issues people speak of except on a2dp, which is a function of the slow ass Uconnect modules.

I won't tell you it's the greatest nav ever. The RX350 I nearly bought had a very nice setup with a little mouse type thing, and it worked fantastically. That said, you HAD to use the mouse, period. Want your co-pilot to do something? Too effing bad, unless they want to do an uncomfortable reach around to use the mouse. True, you could voice command it to do a lot of stuff, but honestly, I'm not much for voice command in general. The nav systems in all the other luxury cars is generally pretty terrible, Acura's looked like they ripped it out of the 90s with all its buttons to do EVERYTHING, Infiniti's was similar but at least slightly attractive looking. The Germans have all gone over to their litte pushy, scrolly, clicky wheel setups which are fine, but not as user friendly and instantly intuitive like the touchscreen.

About the only thing better in its segment IMO was the Touareg, because it was fairly similar, just larger. Essentially like what the 8.4N will be like. Not quite as nice of a nav as the Garmin nav, but still very good. Ford's MFT is also pretty nice, assuming it has the new software.

Re: Am I the only one who HATES the Garmin nav?

Greetings,

Maybe, in the 2013 aftermarket head units from Kenwood, they will finally ask for the full version of the Garmin software. I believe the 8.4 Uconnect radios in the R4 media systems are already using that software.

Best for now.

Mine also has a little delay when switching songs with the steering wheel.
