Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

Did you use any sound deadening or sound mats inside the doors?

No I didn't use any, just a straight swap.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

I've been following very closely, all of the speaker replacement discussions, because I plan on changing out my OE speakers. I, however, have the base 6 speaker set-up.

From what I've seen, only Focal or Kicker offer a 6x9 component deal, and both of them have metal tweeters, so maybe it's possible that the Kicker tweeters are a little harsh too. I suppose the alternative is to go with a 6.5" round speaker, component set, if the 6.5" woofer could be squeezed into the 6x9 opening.

One question that I haven't been able to get a definitive answer on, regardless of the speaker brand, is if you use the hook up from the OE harness to drive the tweets WITHOUT using the crossovers that come with aftermarket speakers, or you hook the signal from the OE woofers to the crossover, then feed the aftermarket speakers from that.

My CG is new, and I also bought the "Maxlife" warranty, so I don't want to have any long term issues.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

To leadfoot4: I am not an audio expert, I have the Alpine Premium system, and from what everyone was saying on the site, with the premium system, the amp has the built-in crossover, so I did not use any crossovers from my Infinity speakers in the front door. I am very happy with the new speakers, they haven't been broken in yet but sound great. Hopefully someone here that has a lot more knowledge can let you know about the crossovers and the basic 6 speaker system.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

Someone earlier was pushing the CDT brand over Focals due to their bright tweeters in the front pillar.

HI!

I'm not an "audio expert" either, but I've done a number of somewhat basic installs, over the last 30 years.

What I'm assuming, and that's a bad thing to do, is that the crossover function is handled by the HU in the dash, since the wiring harness pictures that I've seen, show 2 pairs of speaker leads in each of the front doors. One pair is going to the tweeters, and one going to the 6x9s. I highly doubt that the tweets are getting a full range signal, and I doubt that the mid/bass 6x9s are getting a high range signal. And if that is indeed true, then I'm assuming (again) that I wouldn't need the x-over that comes with the speakers, and that is the info I'm looking for.....

From what I've seen, by looking at the various manufacturers' websites, is that both the Focal and the Kicker component sets have metal domed tweeters. They may be a little "bright", OR "harsh", depending on your tastes. I believe the CDTs are silk domed, but there's one other part to the puzzle. The Focals are the highest efficiency speakers, which means that they'd theoretically perform the best with the relatively low power of the stock HU. The Kicker and CDT speakers aren't as efficient, so they may not perform as well.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

Focals have the other two best on their sensitivity levels and therefore may not need a amp to bring out the best sound. Those focal tweeters are being complained about, the 6x9s for focals seem to be fine with reproducing sound.

Greetings,

If you are just doing a speaker swap out, do not be afraid of mixing up manufactures for the front door. You can get Focal mid bass and some other tweeter that is not as harsh.

The key is when you upgrade the rest, you should really base it on the tweeter and in order to maintain the sound uniformity (timber).

Best for now.

I was thinking the same thing.

Are you aware of a source of just the Focal 6x9? I've looked around, somewhat, and the sources I see, sell only the Focal speakers as a set. I'd hate to spend the money for the Focal set, and then have to buy another pair of tweeters.

CDT does sell their 6x9 mid-bass/woofer separately, and I've even considered just replacing the 6x9, and leaving the OE tweeters in place. I realize that they, the factory tweets, may not be the best, but by leaving them in place, it would certainly simplify the job. FWIW, that's what I did with the GMC Canyon that I owned before the Jeep....

Cool that makes sense. Just don't use or buy the focal tweeters.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

The 6x9s should go in the front and rear doors. Anyone replacing the rear pillar speakers?

Greetings,

Doing a quick search, I also did not find anything on the 6x9. The 6.5 can be found.

You could give Zalytron a call.

Zalytron

Best for now.
