Greetings,

The rear door is designed for a 6.5 speaker. It cost more on the modification to convert into a 6x9 and still might effect the window glass.

You are better off finding a 6.5 coaxial that has an adjustable tweeter so you can point the tweeter into a sweet spot.

Best for now.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

Hello again, so now that I have replaced both my front and my rear speakers, the sound is much better but again, still not as loud as I want it and now I can't hear the subwoofer. I am looking at changing the subwoofer for now. I have a few questions:

1-Should I stick with 8" or try to get a 10" sub to fit in that enclosure?

2-Would a Dual Voice Coil at 1 ohm work ok or should I stay away from that and just use a Dual Voice Coil at 2 ohm?

3-I asked Crutchfield advisors about the Kicker CompRT Slim 8" 400-Watt Car Subwoofer (Kicker 40CWRT81 CompRT shallow-mount 8" subwoofer with dual 1-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com) and they told me it would fit but they didn't have the RMS power of the Jeep amp so they suggested I install another mono amp which I don't want to do. Does anyone know if this sub would work or how much RMS is being sent to the subwoofer from the alpine amp?

4-Is sound dampening a must for the enclosure, can anyone recommend a good/cheaper alternative to Dynamat?

Thanks again guys

Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

The stock alpine sub is dual 2ohm.

Pioneer makes a shallow mount 8" that would be PnP with the alpine amp and is dual 2 ohm:

It's a bit tougher to find speakers in Canada I find. Sure you can order from say Sonic Electronix, pay shipping, brokerage fees, and U.S. to Canada conversion and at times it turns out it's not a great deal unless you order a lot of stuff. I just figured I would get then from Crutchfield in Canada, at least they give all the adapters for free. I went with the lower line Infinity speakers:

Fronts: Infinity Primus PR6500cs
Rears: Infinity Primus PR6502is

I have not done the sub yet nor the center channel speaker because those polk db351s on amazon (canadian site) are about $90. Wish they could sell one instead of 2 :-). I may decide to order the polks on Sonic along with the sub and it may justify the shipping, brokerage fees, and U.S. to Canadian conversion.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

What made you go with the infinities as opposed to focals or CDT? Did you buy 6x9s? Give us all the details and or pics.

I don't have pics, I listed them above, they are all 6.5 speakers, fronts are components, back are coaxials. Like I mentioned, I can't find the focals in Canada, and Crutchfield U.S. doesn't ship to Canada so anyway, I decided to just buy from Crutchfield Canada, it was nice and easy, got the order shipped and at my door 2 days later.

Why not components in both doors instead of coaxials in the rear?

I got coaxials in the rear as that is what was there before. I think the rear pillar speakers are much bigger than the tweaters that are in the front door (for example), I am pretty sure you can fit 3.5 inch spearkers in the rear pillars. I have not done the front channel or the rear pillars. I don't know how much of a pain the rear pillars would be to do... in terms of removing the trim, etc.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

Might be a nice upgrade to do the rear pillars. I replaced my front dash speaker with the Polk that everyone's been using and there was a noticeable difference especially during phone calls and music. That same Polk speaker should fit the rear pillars.

Re: Another speaker thread for Alpine premium stereo

Greetings,

The rear pillar is designed for a 2.5 inch full range speaker. A 3.5 inch speaker size speaker will work. I am using a 3.5 wide band full range speaker their.

Scroll down to the speaker install section. The rear pillar is the last 2 speaker pictures:

2011 Alpine simple make over

In all honesty, if you replaced the rear door speakers, the rear pillar speakers might not do anything for you. Again, the speakers are preset in terms of time delay as per the factory DSP settings. Also, the sound is going to get lost because of this and the lack of power. In this type of SQ system design, you do not want that much highs coming out from the rear D pillar speaker.

Best for now.
