"Android has grabbed a hold of 61% of the U.S. smartphone market share, with Apple dropping from 41% to 29% in the same time period."

Quote:
Most vehicle manufactures believe the androids and google phones will blow over in a couple years, so they have to second guess any expenditure of their limited development budgets on a dead end.
If anything people are finally starting to realize Apple is over hyped and over rated.

Re: Apple "Eyes Free"

I would be upset, too, if my favorite auto manufacturer didn't choose to play nice with my favorite smartphone manufacturer. Luckily for me, my interests have joined forces. Let Chrysler know about your issues, or start your own thread. Apple sold over 72 million iPhones in just the last two quarters, there are a few of us out there that are pleased.

So, anyway, it will be a blessing to use Siri to text while driving without having to pull your phone out and hold the home button, especially since the Uconnect SMS thing never really worked. Plus being able to say things on the fly like "open pandora," or "play Phish, Lawn Boy" or "remind me to get toilet paper when I get to West Lafayette" will be awesome, while not taking your hands off the wheel.

The only reason that android have gain more of the market is because of there OS being in so many more phones than apple! Apple only has there OS on iPhone as were android OS is in every other company including lower end models!

Yes, the only reason that Android is taking over more market share is because they're selling more phones. Thank you for pointing this out.

And furthermore, if Apple moved to your idea and licensed their OS out, it would not be appealing to people, because the whole "ideal" of Apple products is that they just work, they don't have compatibility issues because there's only one set of hardware out there for them. Licensing their OS out would do them no good, because they'd end up with the massive amount of work to be compatible with lots of devices that Google faces, and lose their snob appeal to the people who feel that Apple devices are better because they cost more.

I don't think it's smart to base compatibility off of something switched out so often. I get a new cell phone every 2-3 years. I try to make vehicles last 5+ years. When my last car was new, the iPhone wasn't even out yet, but now that I've bought my Jeep there's a plethora of smartphones of different types. In a few years wen I buy my next vehicle, I think it's highly unlikely what we consider to be normal is going to be the norm, and so basing your infotainment system in a vehicle off of something that may well be outdated in 3-4 years is IMO foolish and short sighted.

How stupid would you look if you bought a nice used car that supported an iPhone 5 years from now, when everyone else was using augmented reality glasses? How stupid would a company look if they were to invest millions into supporting a minority stake holder of a market that no longer exists?

Seriously, this sort of move is akin to if they had invested heavily in putting MiniDisc players in their vehicles in the 90s. Or those giant LaserDiscs.

In a big purchase like a vehicle, flexibility and adaptibility are good things.

Only the fan boys, and the devious marketing geniuses at android, something like the management in the DILBERT cartoon .

The quote provided about market share is wrong, or should I say skillfully manipulated by the unscrupulous android mafia.

This thread seems to be about potential iPhone uses with the WK2. Its just like competing phone fanboys and paid marketeers to go off topic and interject FUD into an otherwise useful thread.

Re: Apple "Eyes Free"

For those wanting to use Google Maps (or other phone apps) on your 430/730 screen, check this out.

It is intended to allow your existing touchscreen factory system to both display and control your Android or Apple phone. In other words, you use Google Maps on your phone, but see it on the 430/730 screen and control it using said screen. Audio is routed to the 430/730 via bluetooth.

There is a thread (a very long thread) on MP3Car. There are also YouTube videos.

I posted this in another thread, but this seems more appropriate....

Looks pretty cool! Rumor has it next iPhone will have a 16x9 screen. What's the screen ratio on the Jeep?

"You will need to confim [sic] that you can display your phones [sic] video on your target external display before purchasing this system."
That's not going to happen with any WK2 head unit.

Lockpick....
Then this.
Not the best video, but on a 6" (approx) screen you may not notice the difference....
Basically, the Lockpick seems to be a "requiredd" accessory to many upgrades (front parking-assist cameras, GPS on-the-fly, etc).
