Atfermarket Amplifier Location

Hey guys,

If you installed an aftermarket amp, where did you put it?

I had searched and saw that some of you shoe horned it under one of the front seats, but I don't see how I can fit anything under there with the electronics bolted to the seat.

I've got a stealthbox ready to be amped, waiting on a new headunit and speakers to go in too.

Any viable options other than to ditch the spare tire and put an amp(s) in there?

TIA

In my 2015 Altitude there is a big compartment under a panel under the drivers seat. In the higher end models I believe it holds some of the electronics, but in mine it was empty. I've got three Audison AP amps in there. It keeps them close to the battery under the passenger seat for power hook up.

Yea, in my 2012 Overland that compartment holds the electronics for the Quadralift. It's too bad I can't put them in there.

Thanks though...

Re: Atfermarket Amplifier Location

Greetings,

I was in the same boat as you. I did not bolt them under the seats because I did not want any form water getting down their. My 3 amps are on the back of the rear seat. Hit the link in my signature page you will see my install. Their is a complete photo galley that is accessed thru my member name.

Best for now.

Thanks! Good option.

Keep the suggestions coming if you got 'em.

Re: Atfermarket Amplifier Location

I can't remember the member's name right now but someone here did a complete system and mounted the amps in the spare tire well. If you search this forum you should be able to find the post. There were a lot of photos.

Edit: 2014 GC Limited - Sub Upgrade - JL Stealthbox This is just the JL, not a complete system but you get the idea.

Re: Atfermarket Amplifier Location

Greetings,

A lot of the new Class D amps coming out today are designed for the small footprint. The biggest amp that you mostly likely need is for the sub that is anything over 10 inches. Unless you are designing a competition class sound system which requires the bigger class AB amps, the JGC stock electrical system works better with Class D.

I remember that one member had raised the cargo cover to fit the amps their along with the spare. If you can find it, I believe it is a post back in 2012.

Best for now.

Thanks! I'll start searching for it.

Yea, I'm looking at a Class D. So far the line up is JL HD, PG Ti2, Zapco ST, Alpine PDX-v9. The Alpine seems to be the best bang for buck 5 channel Class D amp, but I'm worried about hiss, on/off pop, and rf interference that some people have stated they had with it.

I've got a 255/70/18 in the spare tire well that took up any extra space, so I wouldn't be able to stuff an amp where the storage bin used to be.

I'm kind of starting to think about really ditching the spare tire and putting the amp there, but then that opens up the door to more flexibility with a 4 channel and a mono or something in addition to a little more storage space for misc items like a tire patch kit and my Viair compressor.

Re: Atfermarket Amplifier Location

I installed mine under the back seat. I initially installed it under the passenger seat above the, which is a terrible spot due to alternator interference from the battery. So whatever you do, don't install it there.

Re: Atfermarket Amplifier Location

Yea, planning on ditching the spare and going with a tire patch kit and viair like I had with my lifted WJ. I'll just throw the spare in on top when I go on longer road trips.

Thanks!
