audio help

I have a 2012 laredo. The system does not make me happy. It's just not loud enough. For example: on my way home from work Metallica came on so I cranked the radio up and it just was not to my liking. Maxed the dial out and it sounded like poop. Would changing out the factory speakers help much or should I be looking at a full system change? Also if I change my hu, what's involved in that for these cars?
Thank you all

No factory sub. I think 6 speakers. 4 in the doors and 2 tweeter. would it be a typical install? Mounting bracket and harness, wire up and I'm good to go? Are there certain models that work with the jeep better then others?

If money was not an issue....
I personally would go with one of the new Android friendly Dual-DIN units with the large screen, a 5.1 amp and some good dual-speaker units for the doors. There's room for a small center channel speaker in the middle of the dash.
The subwoofer fits into the right rear panel by the rear hatch.

I've got the Laredo X with the upgraded 430N and 9 speaker system and I like it quite well. Had a heck of a time finding the last 2 speakers until one day when I was looking in the rear view mirror I noticed them high in the rear above the hatch pointing forward.

I would like a better head unit, but the 430N isn't bad. I have to admit the door speakers could do with an upgrade, but I have other priorities right now.

Re: audio help

Greetings,

As a fellow member said, changing your HU is the best way to start. You have a wide range of options out there. It all depends on your budget. I would look into Kenwood, Alpine and Pioneer in that order. If you want to keep the system simple, then look for a HU with a built in DSP section. General, these are the $700.00 and up or depending what is on sale. You save money in the end.

Once you have established your new headunit, then listen to the system and see how it sounds. The next will be the speakers and then amps if you need it.

If you have a more defined wish list, then let us know. Many here can help.

Best for now.

Would I need to install something to retain steering controls?
I like having bluetooth, are any of these units able to use the factory mic or will I need to add an aftermarket one?

Re: audio help

Greetings,

On the majority of the units, you do have to add the mic supplied.

If you get the Idatalink interface as the harness, I believe you can hook into it with the new Kenwood headunits.

iDatalink - Maestro - RR-CHR01-DS

Best for now.

Greetings,

You do not need Uconnect for the phone connection. Depending which camp you are in and type of phone, some of this aftermarket HU have better connections via the bluetooth. For example, if you have a fairly recent Android based smartphone, Kenwood has an enhanced sound function in the HU.

An aftermarket HU boils down to the functions you want within your given budget.

Best for now.

I have a note 3. I need bluetooth. That's pretty much what I need. I want something with navigation too. Though I saw some of the units have mhl function so I can just use my phone. My budget is $1000 max

Re: audio help

Greetings,

Depending if you want a GPS and screen size you will find units from $350 to $700.00 in range. The harness vary from the different companies and you will also need a mounting bracket. If you are not installing yourself, then Best Buy or even Crutchfield thru their networks can install it for you. Some modification will have to happen to the mounting bracket, but that is typical so do not worry.

Using Crutchfield as reference:

Find what fits your car - Crutchfield

Best for now.
