Greetings,

The front speakers are not full range with the Alpine Premium Factory system. The internal DSP is setup for a 7.1 surround sound system. The .1 indicates the bass and front speakers are set up differently. I believe the fronts start somewhere around 60 hz (cycles). So if you do not tap the sub as well, then the low bass is lost.

I can not find the thread that fellow member did the break downs when they install their 3.sixty.3. I will try later to find it.

Yes, it does make in more painful, but if you are looking to improve the stock and you want to keep the 7.1 surround sound, then you have to. Otherwise, you can go with the traditional front, rear and sub. Also if you do want a some sort of surround sound, check out this Kicker product:

Kicker Front Row™ 6-channel digital signal processor at Crutchfield.com

Best for now.

Re: Audio Install Image Dynamics and JL.

Some good information in this thread. Speaking from someone that use to buy into the hype of $$$ speakers and $$$$ amps, most if not all is clearly marketing and hype. I was fortunate enough to meet people ( real SQ crowd) that help me understand that mediocre speakers can out perform the so called "High end" like your Brax/Helix, Focal, Rainbow, Dynaudios...etc when installed correctly. Same goes for amps....don't waste your money. One o thef top SQ cars in the world is all Class D. Most SQ cars I've been around had less than 1000watts and running just a single 10" sub. Stephen Mantz wrote some great articles on amps.

Some advice for those looking to do a serious install is go to sponsored event and talk with the guys that live this stuff. Most are really cool dudes that will explain what a good system should sound like. Sit in the cars, play your favorite CDs....yes CDs. You will be literally blown away. I'm not talking some local stereo shop. ISACA event.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think there was a full-range signal in front of the Jeep either.

Coming from a Lincoln THXII system, I will always be wanting more from this pathetic Alpine system. But, I don't wish to spend the $thousands to get there...

Greetings,

This is the thread I was talking about. I am sure you read it before:

Factory Frequency Response

Yep, I know the feeling. I gave up a great DLS Audio system. When I got the JGC, I knew that the sound stinks. Little by little I am going to this around.

Best for now.

Greetings,

Your commentary says it all and right to the point regarding SQ.

A good rule of thumb regarding amps for SQ purpose: for the mid-bass/midrange & highs, 75 watts a channel is more than you need to drive quality speakers. 300-500 watts for a 10 inch sub. With Class D amps just make sure you read the professional reviews that give details on how clean the power supply is. For example, you should easily find something in the $400 to $550 range for a 4-channel amp and a mono sub amp. Therefore, using my example, a traditional front, rear and sub system should average from 600 to 800 watts using passive crossovers.

From Madisound, you get this great deal on 6.5 component speaker set up:

The Madisound Speaker Store

This would cost you with any question twice the price from a brand name that most likely uses Scanspeak to design the drivers.

Best for now.

Re: Audio Install Image Dynamics and JL.

I have a set of Revelators in the closet somewhere....LOL. Great, and I mean great woofers. I believe rated 1st place in the midbass shootout. Anyway, If I decide to go all out again. I will use the Revelators or the Illuminator mids along with my Fountek FR's with my Illuminator tweeters. All active of course! Takes a lot of work...just don't have the energy anymore. The install is easy, its all the other stuff that comes with it. Tuning.....takes allot of time and patience that could take weeks to get right. Tweaking never really ends!!

Re: Audio Install Image Dynamics and JL.

I decided to switch out the JL for the Polk MM, noticeable difference in output. I went ahead and put two more layers of bedliner spray. I was able to pick up a CDT Audio HD800CF that is dual 2 ohm.. dirt cheap. Just curious to see if the output changes. Glad I ditched the factory sub.

I've never had an issue with CDT stuff. Generally decent stuff for the money. I love the MX passive crossovers. The flexibility is insane.

Re: Audio Install Image Dynamics and JL.

I'm really debating on going all out. Keep the Scan tweeters, put the Fountek FR's in for midrange and throw in the Rev 18's in the doors.....pretty much one of the best 3 way setups around.
