"auto colors" ?? on radio/navagation display

So there is ;

daytime colors
night time colors and
auto colors.

as far as I can see it just changes the brightness of the screen.

So I put mine on "auto" thinking it will sense day or night and adjust the brightness appropriately but it does nothing.
I have to manually change it at night, etc

Thanks

The issue is NOT the radio or navigation display.

The issue is the dimmer for your interior lights. There is a detent that the dimmer switch is in. Roll it down a bit to get it out of the detent, and then when the headlights come on the display will switch to night mode.

Exactly what NotNowChief said.

The roller for the interior lights is one setting too high. If you roll it all the way to the top, all your interior lights will come on. Roll it one click down and your nav will always stay in full brightness. One click down from there will make it work in "auto" mode.

Another question:
Is that the only way ?
You have to accept that all your guages will be one notch dimmer ?

Exactly. This too is annoying me. Extremely frustrating. I want the lights in the cup holder, doors and gushes bright while putting nav screen in darker state. Every other vehicle I've driven does this automatically. Oh well, it's a small price to pay I suppose.

Yes, unfortunately that's the only way to make it work.
