Backseat video options

Will be installing lockpick 3.0 to get my inputs/outputs, what are best choices for aftermarket backseat video? I'll consider headrests as well as ceiling mount. My cheap arse doesn't have a sunroof, so nothing to worry about there

This is going to be a DIY, so any pointers on tearing apart my headliner would be appreciated (if someone has already tread this ground). If I go headrests I'll likely have a shop install those.

Re: Backseat video options

Anyone with the rear entertainment system mind measuring from the front of the headliner to the middle of the unit and from one side to the same. Just trying to figure out optimal placement of the unit and I'm sure it would be great "group memory" for the board and other people that might want to do this project.

I will post up a write up of the installation once complete!

Re: Backseat video options

Installation in the headrest may be problematic because these are "active protection" headrests (or whatever they are called) - front snaps off by springs in case of the accident

Here's a company that lists applications for the WK2 but they are pricey.

Looks cool, but they only sell to new car dealerships.

Re: Backseat video options

Looking like this may be my unit of choice. I installed one of these in a Honda Odyssey and it was all around excellent. Can't be beat for $500. Sure there is the Clarion 15.2" for about the same price, but that is way too much screen real estate and the Clarion name is not quite the same as Alpine. I also like how the silver accents complement the silver on the console.

Hahaha +1. I have the same problem haha fortunately I have the rear DVD so it was a good idea to "get back there and check it out"

Re: Backseat video options

Love it, everybody could use a little more backseat time.

Liquid, any details on how your stock unit is positioned (pics or measurements)? Just want to make sure that first cut is the right one (and the only one).

Re: Backseat video options

GTOG, FWIW I've also got the stock DVD unit. Pros are that the multi media controls work well both from the head unit, and the rear unit remote control. You can literally have three different audio sources playing: one for the main cabin stereo, one for one headset, and another for the second headset - pretty cool. Video quality is solid though not HD. Cons are that it is expensive as hell, blocks the rear view mirror line of sight out back, and the wireless headset audio quality is weak.

Re: Backseat video options

Thanks for the feedback moosehead. No question, I would get it if available, but they won't sell it to Laredo low-lifes like me LOL. Has to be Limited or higher. So, a man is forced to do what he must. Nurse...scapel please, I'm going in.
