Base 6 speaker front door speaker upgrade question

I am upgrading the front door speakers to Kicker 40CSS694's, they are components with a crossover. Anyone know how the signal to the front is distributed. Should I just replace the 6x9 and tweeter and let the uconnect distribute the sound? is the signal going to the 6x9 a full signal? Should it be fed to the crossover than routed to the 6x9 and tweeter?

Re: Base 6 speaker front door speaker upgrade question

You're trying to find out the same thing that I am, and I'm not having much luck. I have seen a wiring diagram for the front doors, and there are two pairs of speaker leads in the doors, 1 pair for the tweets, and 1 pair for the 6x9s. I had to make assumptions, but to me, it appears that the HU is doing the X-over for the speakers....

Greetings,

If you have the Alpine system, the best thing is to just do the speaker swap without using the passive crossovers. The factory DSP/AMP is already present with crossover points, this is called an active (electronic) system. If you connect the passive crossover into the system via the OE 6x9 speaker wire, you are limiting the high frequencies, thus will not have the correct signal going into the tweeter.

For the recent stock 6 speaker system, it should be the same way as the Alpine for the front door.

Hope this helps.

Best for now.

First, thanks for the help 1stJeepGC. Put the kickers in and an Alpine KTP-445 for some power, getting a bit of white noise at 0 volume, but I'll figure that out eventually. The kicker tweets are garbage. Too bright and at a volume level just over what it was for stock max loudness before clipping I'm getting some weirdness. I sounds like metallic bass hits in sync with the actual bass. I'm not sure the signal distribution, but I'm not very happy with it. I am pretty sure I blew one too . Which is not a big deal because as I said I hate the sound and have Alpine SPS-110TW silk domes ordered. I hope I can get this all sorted out, all I wanted was a bit more and this is turning into a pretty involved project.

Re: Base 6 speaker front door speaker upgrade question

I THINK... THINK.. the factory 6 speaker system is nto crossed-over in the radio. it will full range to the factory. the 6x9 gets full range, and the tweeter just has a cap (bass blocker) on it.

Best thing to do in your case would be to install the ktp-445u and use the front output to run toe the factory 6x9 wires. then in the door connect your passive crossover, and then coming out of your kicker(passive) crossover, run to the kicker tweeter and 6x9.
so you will be using the factory wire, so you dont have to run wires into the door.

(when you install the ktp445u, you should have cut the factory wires at the back of the radio. Then output from the radio to input of the alping ktp. then output from the alpin ktp to to the other half of hte cut wire.. the part that runs into the doors.

That being said. Kicker is know for being "harsh" with their tweeters.. the use a hard tweeter. the KS series has a soft dome, but they are still much, much "harsh" or "bright"er than pretty much every other company on the market except infinity.
