Shit subwoofer, that is the deal. It's horrid, truly horrid.

lol not really I think the 5, 0, 3 on the Harmon stereo sounds pretty good. of course that is very source dependent, XM sounds like a tin can no matter where you set it. XM sound is really my only complaint on the HK, for a mass produced stock setup it sounds good.

Re: Best Harmon Kardon Equalizer Settings

Ok so when i got my car in sept the rear left door panel sub was blown.. Obviously i didnt notice it until after i left virginia ( group buy thanks to this forum) so i didnt notice on what frequency and i say that now bc i found out later after the speaker had been already replaced that it wasnt the speaker it was an incorrect level in the digital amp.. So when i went to bring my jeep in to replace the speaker again there was an amp update to tune the amp.. Problem solved.. Whats funny is i told em them speaker only sounds bad it certain keys not all of them but they just gave me my assurance that it was just blown.. Wrong they were..

So was this amp update software they loaded or did they just tweak it somehow?

-2+4+3. The HK system has plenty of bass, in my opinion.

Re: Best Harmon Kardon Equalizer Settings

revisiting this, i'm still REALLY unhappy with the boomy subwoofer when playing even purchased mp3's from sd card. we're not talking bassy music either, stuff like coldplay even plays with ridiculously overpowering bass. lowering the bass in the 3 range eq (even all the way down) makes almost no difference in the sub range. system is fine with xm though...
someone mentioned the subwoofer is bad, but not clear how a better subwoofer would help or whether it's even feasible to change out the factory one.

I can only answer on the soundtrack you sent, Chainsmokers/Something Just Like This...I am sure over the last 2 years you have a wide sampling of soundtracks to shape your opinions about the HK sub/bass performance but this track....it is a very bassy soundtrack....the dance club peavey amp rattle your insides vibrating kind....it's got a big reverb and at 0/0/0 on HK EQ it certainly is bassy but by no means "wrong" for the song as it was recorded that way. This track maxes out my very good laptop speakers even at a moderate volume and makes me turn turn down my 15" Velodyne sub on my home system....definitely a reverb bass "club" track that is going to make any system sound overly bassy...you mentioned nothing changes when you lower bass EQ...that's weird, mine goes from redic at +max to "I'm in the club" at +6 bass to reasonable bass at 0 and too little at -max...maybe your software has a bug?

I am a total old school rocker (70's/80's) so will admit to loving bass but not reverb "club/dance" bass although I have my Eninem, DMX. etc moods too...I just wish it was a 5/6 band EQ with some canned/custom settings for genre changes....I often trip the heat breaker on the sub amp with my jam sessions...
