Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

I'm using a Transcend right now with about 500 albums but I keep it in my cell phone: move it between cars and link in each with BlueTooth.

Unless the slot conforms to USB 3.0 the access is probably limited to under 30 Mb/s so anything past class 10/U1 is probably not needed.

ps with Amazon, while they sometimes include a receipt in the bag, they keep an electronic copy and returns are automagic. Doesn't happen often but are very good about it.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

ALL,
I started this thread because the music that I put on my flash drive would not play through the USB port and the dealer suggested that I try an SD card instead. So I ordered and received a PNY 32 GB card from Amazon, formatted the card at FAT32, copied my music to it and found that it works perfectly in the SD slot. I'm not sure if my flash drive was bad or if the USB port is bad, but I'm happy to report that the SD card works great. I'll have the dealer check out the USB when I take it in the next time.

Only helpful when copying music to card, pointless after that.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

I've got a 4gb ss card and a 8gb isn flash. Would prefer to use the usb but I'll give the a card a go.
Qn: do I have to wipe everything else off and only have mp3s or do I have to put it into a special folder?

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

I use a USB 2.5" hard drive which has other files on it. From my experience, there's no need to do any "housekeeping"... just bang in the USB or card.

Cheers,
Steve

On both my flash drive as well as my sd card, I deleted everything I had on the drive and card, reformatted them to FAT 32 and copied only my music files as mp3's. There is no folder, just the music files. I found that the sd card works better as my flash drive often doesn't load.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

Yeah I agree the SD Card is best. 4Gb did the trick for me. Loaded everything out of my iTunes and it plays great. Didn't load once on startup (probably just a glitch)
This ones a winner!

DO NOT BUY PNY!
I bought a 32GB card and the card controller is junk. Of course I can't find the original receipt and PNY won't stand behind their product without it. Gee, I think the numbers on the card would tell them exactly which production lot/run it came from and how old the card is (less than 1 year when I started having issues), but they wouldn't warranty the card.

So now I tell any/everyone that you should NOT buy PNY cards/flash drives.
i just got a sandisk 64gb and it doesn't work in my summit or in my pc reader, but it does work in an external usb 3.0 reader i have.

What form factor is your SD Card (SD, MicroSD, MiniSD)? If you are using an adapter (MicroSD to SD), you'll need to make sure it supports the SDXC (SD Extreme Capacity) format.

I thought I had a bad 64GB microSD card when the actual problem was the card reader/adapter I was using.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

I have 64GB SD and USB and they both work fine.
Make sure the USB stick is FAT32 and if you do have to format it on Windows it won't let you use FAT32 on large drives. You need a 3rd party tool.
Many Sticks and SD's will come formated FAT32 but not always.
