Make sure the USB stick is FAT32 and if you do have to format it on Windows it won't let you use FAT32 on large drives. You need a 3rd party tool.
Many Sticks and SD's will come formated FAT32 but not always.
wish i'd seen this sooner... very annoying windows won't let you format a 64GB card with fat32 (only exFat). so i guess i have to find a tool that isn't virusware...

thank you.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

Just a clarification- are you leaving the sd card in at all times to play the music or does the jeep have a hard drive that you are uploading them to?

No hard drives from MY14 onwards. SD card stays in.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

my two options for formatting are NTFS and exFAT. Based on what I am reading I have to download an application that will allow me to format to FAT32? Or can exFAT/NTFS work? I bought a Samsung SDXC UHS-I 64GB Class 10 U1...also bought this reader and for the $$ it works great! Was getting 55Mb/s consistently from my 3.0 HD: Saicoo USB 3.0 4in1 Digital Memory Card Reader/writer (both SD card and Saicoo were purchased on Amazon...I am a prime member and their customer service is unrivaled!!)

Thank you for assistance!

UPDATE: I formatted the SD card to NTFS and it worked perfectly. Took about 5 minutes for it to load all 36GB/5800+ songs...very happy to add this to my USB!!! almost 60GB of music at my fingertips not including my phone...love the 8.4" setup!!

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

I have ordered a jeep grand Cherokee Overland and have a question before it arrives :-)

Question for Jeep SD or USB drives: What is the best way to organize music files on the removable drive:
\Artist\Album\title (two level of folders and then playable files)
or
\Artist - Album\title (one folder with all playable files under the folder)
Any difference on how the music is categorized on the screen (or shuffled)?

Also, I have a 128 GB FAT32 drive, if the drive is 1/2 full how long will the following take:
1) Initial plug-in of a "fresh" removable drive
2) after initial plug-in is complete/working and then turning the ignition on?

Thanks for any guidance

This is how mine is. I just copied the contents of my iTunes MUSIC folder onto the SD card, and that is how it was filed.

Do you mean the initial indexing time from the first time you put in the SD/USB and then each time after?
If so the initial time will vary of the amount of content, after that, I have never timed it, but it is not very long.

Does anyone have more information on this? I've got about 58 gb (10000 songs) on an NFTS SD card and after at least 12+ hours I still am unable to use the VR to play artists or songs as i get the "still indexing" message.

I understand that I have an extraordinary amount of content, but I'm getting concerned that something is preventing it from completing the index.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

That is a lot less than many others, but more than my current setup. I have about 32GB on a 64GB card and voice control may take up to a minute to happen.
I will test. I will drop all my podcasts on there too so it has new content and see how long it takes. This will probably only add a couple of GB, but can be achieved quickly.
I do have a 256GB card I plan to use once I copy all remaining CDs.

Re: Best sd card for my new 2015 Summit?

I have 38GB (about 5900 songs) on a 64GB SD card and it loads in 10-15 seconds max...by the time all lights go off on the dash and everything has cycled, music begins playing shortly thereafter. I also switch to my 16GB USB (about 10GB stored) and the switch is similar time-frame. It should not take hours to load from an SB/USB (this in on my 14 8.4" unit)

Well, mine does start playing in about that time, but it's the VR that still isn't working. Anytime I try to use VR to select music I get the "still updating catalogue" message. I've only recently put in the SD card, but I drove about 12+ hours with it in and it's still giving me this message. Should I be concerned or more patient?
