Coming back from Afghanistan in a few weeks to a new 2013 Overland Summit with the 730N(RHR) nav system.

I'm also in need of a phone upgrade and am looking for any advice on whatever smartphone is most compatible with this vehicle setup?

Bluetooth audio streaming w/ metadata, phonebook d/l, and text messaging is important to me. I've looked at all the compatability charts that are available online, but would like to hear from actual users.

iPhone5, Google Nexus 4, Lumia 920?

Thanks in advance,
-Mike

iPhone5 works great for us... well as well as the POS 730N lets it. My iPad and iPod touch also work well. There may be issues with third party music apps and steering wheel controls, but none with the built in apps as far as I can tell.

Hey man! Thanks for your service. Enjoy that new Jeep! The easist answer is it depends. iPhone 5 will probably be the odds on favorite. Many are using it, lots a great features and a very mature platform. The down side is sealed cabinet, no external upgrades or RAM. most think that is no big deal. Just by the biggest one you can affort.

The Lumia is interesting but it is not mature. There is some risk there. If you are a Windows guy and like to tinker the 920 might be fun, but it wont be as seamless and easy to use out of the box.

I know the least about the Nexus 7. Similar deal here though. If you are already using a droid you might want to take a look at it. I have used the iPhone 4 and 5 and also have an HTC droid. Both platforms are remarkable and would serve you well.

First off, Thank you for your service! You will love the new WK2 when you get home!

I am going to have to respectively disagree with FastOrange on this one. I am currently using a Yellow Lumia 920 with my WK2 and it works flawlessly for calls, streaming music and texts. Even the voice to txt feature works great so I am able to send/receive and reply to txts while the phone is in my pocket all through the Uconnect system. Now if they just had an option for wireless charging in the jeep, that would be awesome :)

I have had excellent luck using an Android 4 device: RAZR MAXX. When streaming music from the files in my phone, the screen of the 730shows the title of the track and the artist. The album art will also show up quite often (on par with using CDs, iPod, or the HDD). The steering wheel controls work very well to navigate the tracks with no delay.

Streaming internet radio stations also show track information on the 730. No album art (so far), but the generic category artwork changes to match the music style (country, rock, classical, etc).

Edit: (Mild Rant) What do we want? SMS! When do we want it? Any time in the next year would be good....

Not sure this matters but I like it because my hearing is not the best. When I use Google maps turn by turn directions, when a voice prompt speaks, it come through Uconnect. After it is done it says "phone call complete" but I like that it does it through uconnect instead of the iphone speaker. With apple maps it played through the iphone speaker

As Mashie already stated, the Nokia Lumia 920 works exceptionally well. I have a black 920 and my previous Lumia's (800 and 900) worked flawlessly, too. The maps are better than others as Nokia owns Navteq which is the best mapping in the world. The Windows 8 operating system is easy to use as well.
