The Shark Fin uses a Fractal Antenna: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal_antenna

Supposedly, you don't loose signal vs. stock with the Shark Fin:

Re: Car wash and the antenna

Ordered the sharkfin a few days ago. It is still "pre-release" and lead time is about 2 weeks but matches paint perfectly. Have to email them if interested since it is not listed on website yet.

I cannot believe you guys take your new jeeps through the paint beater (car wash). Not only are you getting your paint sanded with everyone else's sand and dirt that is stuck in the brushes but some of those soaps and chemicals strip any wax right off. Do the touchless if you absolutely cannot hand wash!

+1
new car=request no wash at dealer, take home, garage, all handwash, first with dawn, if it "feels" bad then claybar it, then wash again and Zaino time
after couple layers and a final touchup, you're ready to enjoy your new vehicle.

Re: Car wash and the antenna

I take all of my vehicles to a car wash WITH brushes. They pre wash every vehicle, so there isn't any mud, sand, salt, etc on the brushes. I have been using it for many years without any problems. Don't know about you, but I don't like to wash my car when it is below freezing outside. I would prefer to drive down the road and just sit in my car.

if you're really picky you can get a nylon screw that matches the threads and shorten it so it plugs the hole beautifully.
other options of course Cravenspeed shorty (super nice) antennas but not in production yet, the more requests they get the faster they'll make them for the GC.

here's an example of the Cravenspeed
