Greetings,

Protecting Uconnect and to make back all the money they put into research.

Or,

They think it is not ready for primetime.

My opinion, until more 3rd party apps come out, I am still sitting on the sidelines. Some say it has enough apps already for both Apple and Google systems. It is now coming again to personal preference. The reason I say that, if you look at Android Auto, for navigation that is all you need and their is more than enough music, podcast apps. With Carplay, the navigation is still up in the air until IOS 9 Maps come out. I still prefer off-line navi.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Here is a recent article on how consumers consider what they want in regards to technology. Interesting article.

For consumers, Apple's CarPlay takes backseat to practical in-car technology

For certain, the aftermarket HU is still not enough for additional 3rd party developers to start converting and/or new apps for both CarPlay or Android Auto. Until the OE HU market with both systems become greater, than they will be looking into it. Moreover, both systems have to become more open with their systems.

On the IOS side, Sygic, 3rd party off-line navi app, still has not done anything with CarPlay. In addition, Aupeo is in the same boat for music. Pandora is still not up yet, but that does not both me because of the audio qualiy is not up to par with the others.

So, still hanging on to my AppRadio.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Nothing new on the OE front still. I have not heard anything when CarPlay/Android Auto will be upgradable for the 2014+ or when any new models will have them. Meanwhile, other car manufactures are now slowly releasing new models with either system in it.

On the aftermarket side, Parrot killed off their aftermarket unit. That one I had high hopes for. Kenwood release another 2 units bringing their total up to 4 now. Kenwood has a firmware update for the first 2 units. Alpine has still not disclose the new unit. So, now we wait until 2016 CES show only 3 months away.

On the critical software side, nothing new on 3rd party navi apps. From inquires to the various apps, it seams that until either system relax the standards nothing is going to happen so fast. More music apps are popping.

So, still on the waiting game.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Kinda got my hopes up earlier on the 2016 shifter...'

Also thought I read somewhere that someone had linked a press release from FCA CONFIRMING that 2016 8.4 systems WILL BE compatible with apple CarPlay.

Can anyone confirm that I saw that somewhere? Or am I merely being delusional....again?

THX

Re: Carplay

On further investigation....

Apparently the inclusion (or not) of CarPlay in the '16 is less significant to me than I had thought.

Everything I am reading says that CarPlay does not support the WAZE app....which was my whole reason for lusting after CarPlay.

Drat....foiled again....

Greetings,

Gee, I wonder why.

You never know with Google. They might do it later on to spike Apple.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Released today - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brands, including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, RAM and Abarth, will not support CarPlay in 2016 models, and the auto group has not announced future plans. It appears we're a long way off from having this capability.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

It amazing over the last couple of weeks, other manufactures have released the lists of which models will have the CarPlay and Android ready to go.

I guess that FCA behind close doors is trying to figure out when to surprise us.

Or they thing that Uconnect is the answer to everything.

In any event, you thing they could come up with a better GPS by now?

As for me still waiting until the 3rd party Navi apps are here or Apple really surprises us with a total redesigned MAP app. Something is up their sleeve because it seems they are purchase more GPS software based companies again and telling anybody.

Best for now.

I wonder if Uconnect will roll out updates to previous model years too to get the feature of CarPlay
