Re: Carplay

Greetings,

If this year's New York Auto Show has a demo car with Carplay, then I will go and take a peak. So in the meantime, I will stick with my Pioneer AppRadio 3 until an aftermarket Carplay comes out.

Best for now.

Greetings,

I pickup my Grand Cherokee because I wanted something that is a true 4x4 and it is 1000 times better than that Pathfinder I used have.

I love Apple products now that I switched over from windows, but, Jeep still know how to build, that's more important.

Either way in the future, OEM's will have to have interfaces to all platforms, unless they make the systems user friendly to the aftermarket arena.

Best for now.

It would be a factor as I'm tired of paying the annual fees and getting little in return. It could be an Android system as I have both phones. I'm not a fan of uconnect. It is not as polished as what I have in my Acura TL and I don't think as nice or advanced as what Ford offers. Others have their own opinion. I've spent the majority of my life driving jeeps, from my first car in a CJ, later a TJ, cherokee and a grand cherokee. This GC model is the first time I've actually considered returning to the jeep brand.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

The one thing I hate about Chrysler is their audio design team. In the past, Chrysler was one of the easiest car companies to work aftermarket equipment in. These days, we see how well they have done since the change in policy. They are still catching up to the competition with the uConnect system.

To me this does matter as a priority in purchasing a vehicle. I more concern that Chrysler is working out the problems with Jeep brand and making the improvements needed for existing and future owners.

Getting back to Carplay, it is still to early at this stage to see how this is going to play out in the OEM and aftermarket. I am gland in the demo's, you can see how fluid it is to switch between apps. Where as with AppRadio and using a lighting connector with iPhone 5 series, you have lags between the commands. More importantly, what additional apps will Apple allow on Carplay. I am most concerned about using offline navi apps. Currently, in both platforms, they are many great apps to choice from in navi. I can see Pandora, Aupeo and other music apps on Carplay down the road.

To me, the whole point of Carplay, is having a large screen interfacing directly with your smartphone, in this case the iPhone, instead of taking your iPad in and out of the vehicle all the time. It is much easier to carry phone than a nice be thing.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Once more the rumor mills are heating up with the aftermarket Carplay head units. Alpine and Clarion seems to be interested in jumping on it early. I am interested to see what new features and updates Apple is going to present at this June's WWDC regarding Carplay.

Apple's CarPlay reportedly coming to aftermarket Alpine stereo systems

Alpine Planning to Release Aftermarket CarPlay Console This Fall - Mac Rumors

On the other side of the smartphone market, both Microsoft and Google are working to get their systems out.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Okay, Pioneer now strikes first in the aftermarket Carplay arena. Here are today's announcements.

Pioneer announces first aftermarket Apple CarPlay systems, coming this summer starting at $700

Now that Alpine and Pioneer have announced their intentions, is Kenwood going to alter it's direction.

Re: Carplay

With the way everything is integrated into new vehicles, especially the Jeep, an after market head unit wont work for me. Its not cost effective. I like how the Sirius, backup camera, and bluetooth mic currently work. I dont want to have go completely custom for all these pieces to work. I really hope a firmware update, or even an add-on like the Lockpick would allow this to happen with the MyGig.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Pioneer is really pushing to get Carplay out. Check this out:

AppRadioWorld: [BREAKING] Pioneer Demos Apple CarPlay On Their NEX Receivers At Media Event

I still want to see what Alpine has to offer first when their unit is due out this fall and Kenwood is still keep the same position as non committed. Instead, Kenwood is pushing the Mirror Technology for both IOS and Android in certain head units. For me, which headunit will give me the better sound quality than I currently have with the Pioneer AppRadio 3.

June 2 is when Apple is supposed to release more details at the WWDC for Carplay. I would like to see more apps that I use on the AppRadio work in Carplay. Navi apps is important issue that has not been addressed yet.

Best for now.

This is pretty cool. CarPlay is a good start toward fixing the problem of immediate obsolescence of automotive infotainment systems. However, there is still a long way to go for the problem to be properly solved. Part of me thinks that smartphone/tablet mirroring (such as miracast) is a good solution, because it helps to lessen the impact of obsolete hardware in vehicles after 6 months. I am still really interested to see what comes out of the Open Automotive Alliance, especially considering everything nVidia and Audi have been doing with infotainment lately.

Re: Carplay

Does anybody know if you install an aftermarket head unit like the Pioneer, does your rear backup camera still function properly? That would be something that hinders me from upgrading my 430N.
