*yawns* quoting your own posts and using a tired argument.

Jeep hasn't invented anything as they have copied everyone else.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

For those who have the Pioneer NEX aftermarket head units, the 9th has come and gone with new release of the firmware to access CarPlay. The summer is still not over for Pioneer. No news at yesterday's Apple event except that Tim Cook acknowledge that CarPlay is a live. We know it is out over at Italy. The fall is right around the corner for Alpine release with their unit.

Now we tune in for September 17, when IOS 8 is released and let us see as the saga continues.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

I'm actually shocked at the lack of innovation on the new iPhone 6...should be called "me2phone". I was hoping it would be technically superior to propel competition. I actually appreciate innovation from all companies. I'm sure carplay will be a very slick and convenient interface which is something Apple is known for.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

I was hoping that Apple with the 2nd generation 64bit chip would have more internal memory or a least have some sort of virtual memory in the iPhone 6. This way the music has a nice storage facility to stay in while you are driving in areas with limited cell coverage.

Both CarPlay and Android's will experience some sort of growing pains as Pioneer's AppRadio went thru and continues to experience. I have to give a lot of credit to Pioneer for sticking with the AppRadio and trying to improve it over the years and getting new apps on board in a market that has a small niche.

With all of the problems of AppRadio and interfacing it with 2 different smartphone OS's, it does work from time to time. Why they choose to go with a Microsoft OS, is beyond me. The advantage that CarPlay and Android will have, is better interfacing with both OEM and aftermarket using QNX in their systems. With the OEM market being superior in numbers, the 3rd party app developers should be more receptive in adopting their apps into these platforms.

Overall, I am still taking a wait and see approach to CarPlay since I am in the IOS camp. Yes, I know I can interface the iPad (Android tablets for those campers), but really do I want to carry it around when I can put the phone on belt or pocket.

Stay tuned for more on this ...........

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Okay, for the aftermarket folks who are interested in CarPlay, nothing doing yet. IOS 8 is out and no CarPlay has driven into the Pioneer NEX Units.

I have now come up with 3 possibilities on this on going delay:
  1. Apple is keeping the aftermarket fair by letting Alpine get their units to market for an even race.
  2. Pioneer still has not proven to Apple it is ready for release.
  3. Apple is using Ferrari drivers as the public beta testers. Na, that can be it.

I have not downloaded IOS 8 until my 3rd party apps are updated or they work in 8. This way I know my Pioneer AppRadio is working with out any problems. I also do not know if IOS 8 has the new MAPS app that Apple was behind on schedule for the update.

For the OEM folks:

I have not heard anything on the rumor that 2014 or 2015 Uconnect units could have CarPlay integrated into them. My mechanic that only works on JGC at the dealer service center could not find any info on that.

Ford has an interesting approach in integrated the iPhone into their OEM head units and it is backwards compatible on certain models till 2011.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Ok, summer is over and no CarPlay yet for the aftermarket world.

On Apple's site, they seam pull off the Chrysler family of products. According to what I read, they are only showing for OEM for this coming product year, which would mean late build 2015 and early 2016 builds. It looks like Chrysler might be a late 2015/2016 or pushed back until 2017. Does this mean Ferrari is the driving beta vehicle?

Another 3rd party app is now on the approved list, CBS news. Oh joy, were is the 3rd party navi apps.

The next major event over at Apple is schedule for late October when the new iPad is suppose to be released along with the new MAC OS Yosemite. If I understand it correctly, information from Maps could now be shared across the platforms. Could this be the hold-up?

Stay tuned again..........

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

Back over at Apple's site, all the Chrysler family is back up on CarPlay supported vehicles. It seams somebody made a bo-bo over at Apple.

I guess the IOS Masters fixed that.

Best for now.

Re: Carplay

Greetings,

For all the aftermarket owners that purchased the NEX units:

It is here finally.

The link below will also get you to the firmware update in the middle of article.

AppRadioWorld: [BREAKING] Pioneer Releases CarPlay Firmware For NEX And AppRadio 4 SPH-DA120

As for me, I am waiting to see the Alpine unit first before I jump on the bandwagon. In addition, before I jump on the bandwagon, the 3rd party navi apps have to come out. Some of the apps I use on AppRadio, I would like to see ported over and that includes Aupeo.

So in the meantime, let's see how it works on Pioneer and how it multitasks.

Best for now.

Greetings,

Pioneer's site is still down.

Here is a link to the early reviews. It is 12 pages and growing as of now. Most of the middle pages is people asking for help in getting downloads due to the Pioneer site crash.

Nothing new on the OEM side for the Uconnect.

What is the early consensus in the reviews?

Greetings,

The UI is far better than AppRadio. That makes me happier since I am dealing with the AppRadio.

So far, it looks like multitasking between the CarPlay and Nex modes have to be iron out. This is what I was anticipating like any new 1st time releases. One big problem is the USB data drive for music storage is not playing correctly. Their is an index issue. Bluetooth, depends on which model from the various reports. Spotify is working for some and problems for others. Nothing yet I saw on running Pandora from the NEX mode while in CarPlay and going back and forth.

The early consensus is both positive and negative. It is hard to tell, but it seams many of the positives are coming from those you have dealt with AppRadio in the past with a few negatives. For somebody that never experienced this level of working with apps, it is a learning curve with patience. You are still working with a computer and you have to think that way.

You are differently going to get detail reports from this weekend once I everybody has loads of time to run this down. I am taking the slow cautious route right now. Plus the fact none of the navi apps for 3rd party is up.

Best for now.
