Re: Caught the mod bug started with the "Alpine" speakers (pics attached)

What 1stJeepGC said. It also all depends on your point of reference. I was coming from a Lincoln THXII system -- which sounds leap years better than these horrible Alpine systems. A simple speaker swap didn't cut it for me -- not even close. I tried all the easy routes. I tried the amp off of OE signals, and also didn't do much. There's now a huge difference in SQ between my Ram and Jeep -- which both had the 430N from start. I'm still working on my Ram, and there's still room for improvement.

I'd still like to hear the HK system. Certainly it's much better than these.

Re: Caught the mod bug started with the "Alpine" speakers (pics attached)

I went about 2-3 weeks after upgrading the speakers and decided that the factory sub needed to go. I had an Alpine MRDM500 amp from my Tahoe laying around that needed some good use. I was going to use a LC8i for the loc but decided that the factory amp was sufficient for the speakers after upgrading and went with just a regular loc off the factory amp. I added a bass controller as the stealthbox needs control depending on what you are listening to. I am very content after upgrading the speakers and adding the sub. Best of all nothing stands out and sounds incredible.

I mounted the amp under the drivers seat and was able to secure it to the plate covering the quadralift electronics. There are no clearance issues with the power seat moving in any direction. I attached the loc to the amp in the rear quarter panel and ran the rcas to the sub. I then ran the bass knob into the center console so it would be hidden yet easily accessible for quick adjustment.

For some reason it's flipping the amp picture upside down. It fit perfectly on the plate and make is easy to pull out for adjustments.

Re: Caught the mod bug started with the "Alpine" speakers (pics attached)

Greetings,

As they say in my neck of the woods and many other places, the bass is in the house.

Mine is powered by a mono Pioneer Stage 4 PRS-1200M. Currently it is not listed on Pioneer's website, but you can still get them at Crutchfield and other places.

IMHO, the best way to improve the bass response correctly is not to try to upgrade the OEM factory sub unless it meets your expectation. Some folks who did upgrade the OEM, later on change it out for something better. Many here have gone to the aftermarket route via the JL Audio stealth box or a custom solution with a proper amp.

Those silly people in charge of the audio department at Chrysler should go back to school.

Best for now.
