Chrysler Nav vs. Jeep Nav

I just saw a Chrysler commercial showing off their new product line (some kind of batman takeoff commercial). I noted the Nav in the commercial appeared to be all push screen and much nicer than the 730 which is suppose to be in my Summit. Does anyone know what model nav might have been in the commercial? Will this be inter-changeable with the 730 in the future?

Re: Chrysler Nav vs. Jeep Nav

You're probably talking about the new 740N system in the Charger/300C etc.

I read somewhere it's based on a newer electrical architecture that the WKII isn't on yet. Probably being worked on for the mid-cycle refresh.

Re: Chrysler Nav vs. Jeep Nav

Oh look.. it even has a picture of an iPod on it... I wonder if iPod support doesn't completely suck on it like it does on the current models...

I'm not so sure I like the idea of giving up hard buttons for some of the things the new system handles... climate control and heated seats? I don't really like the idea of punching through three menus just to turn the A/C on or off...

I just want to make sure, if i keep my jeep for several years, i dont end up in Apple world and have to upgrade to the newest technology every 6 months. i hope the dash is designed to remove teh 730 and install this one if you want. would be mad if you were to sell your jeep and the buyer says "oh, you have that old 730 in your jeep, no thanks"

I doubt it, at least not easily. I am sure the new BUS/MOST/Fiber Optic System - whatever Jeep/Chrysler calls it, won't "talk" with the current. **This is just speculation - not based on fact.**

The bigger shame is that in the fall of 2010 the 730N RER was the latest available - and it was an upgrade (I paid $305 extra in my Limited for it). Then, this spring the 730N RHR is now the upgrade. So, those of us with the RER are already behind the eight ball and we are still in the same model year! We should file a class action lawsuit against Chrysler/Jeep and all demand new RHR systems

Oh well, we can dream... I guess i'll have to just upgrade my 2011 in 2014 - by then I should be able to get LED Tails and one-touch rear windows as well

Re: Chrysler Nav vs. Jeep Nav

The nav radio is the new UCONNECT TOUCH 8.4N, sales code RB5 with Garmin based navigation.

An 8.4" non-nav version is also available (RE2) and there is also a non-nav 4.3" screen version (REB). The new radios debuted on 2011 models of the 300, Charger and Journey.

They are not compatible with the WK2, either in fitment or electrically. The vehicles with these radios feature the new Powernet electrical architecture which will make its way to the Grand Cherokee starting the 2013 or 2014 model year. The new radios will probably hit the WK2 for the mid-cycle refresh.

Smart move: The touch-screen climate controls are redundant and can be operated by standard controls. Notice the mechanical Volume button as well as the SD card slot below the Off/Auto button:

Looks nice. Too bad we couldn't have it in the WK2. Bottom line with electronics though is: There's always something a little nicer 6 months down the road. True for computers, phones, and vehicle electronics.

While that is certainly true, it doesn't apply here. The 8.4" NAV units are already in production right now and are offered in cheaper, entry level models from the same parent company.

We're not talking about contemplating waiting to purchase a vehicle because of future improvements that are coming down the road but are not offered anywhere right now, current Chrysler vehicles sitting on dealer lots right now that cost half as much offer the 8.4" NAV and the 2011 WK2 does not--and apparently won't until 2013 or 2014.

It doesn't seem right that a $50K vehicle won't get a NAV similar to the one currently offered in a $25K vehicle until 2013 or 2014.
