I have the 730N RER in my Jeep. I'm confused on whether I have the most up to date SW, maps, etc. Also the mygig site that I would expect to find the updates doesn't make sense at all. Any help appreciated.

Here is my info:
Software
Application: 2.201
Gracenotes: 2057
Database: RS21-N 1004 3.3.3
SDS: 170901

Hardware
Serial #: T00BE323056315
System: 6816 009 3.8

I have the 2.201 installed on mine with an august build date.

I have 2.201 on mine - from a November build date. I think 2.3 is the current version. Supposedly v2.4 is coming out this month. I know there is a web-site where someone is hosting the updates. If you search the forums for MyGig updates you should find it. I have no idea when it will be out, but I saw Milous post something about it in late November saying we could expect an update in January. I think it just a software update to fix some iPhone4 connectivity issues, and is not related to Maps. I didn't update to 2.3 because my iPhone bluetooth sort of works (with the exception of caller ID) and I don't want to mess with it unless I know it would make it better. The map update is probably separate and expensive. I think that is through Navteq.

Fingers crossed on my end as well. I can't even make calls let alone receive. I finally turned bluetooth off on my iPhone since it keeps locking up. Works fine with my BMW, go figure.

The 730n RHR (the newer version to the older RER) I believe is a hardware upgrade, not a software upgrade. I have an Overland on order which I am requesting the 730n RHR version, even if I have to wait. According to Jeep (had to bypass my dealer on this one), the RHR radio is due to hit new production builds within the next month (hopefully). What I hear through these blogs is that dealers will finally (and hopefully) see by this week the 730n RHR option when placing new orders.

On another note, according to Jeep, what seems to be slowing down the production of a new Grand Cherokee is not so much the 730n RHR but if you request the New Saddle interior or Mineral Gray exterior. Those have been the most popular requests and new orders for those options might not see productions for months.

From dealing with both dealer, Jeep, and these online blogs, the only thing concrete regarding the 730n RHR radio is that NOTHING is concrete.

Here's what happens with out-going calls:
1. Press the UConnect button on steering wheel and say "Dial xxxx (name)"
2. Phone begins the dialing process, sometimes completes, but often locks up.
3. Call shows "Connected" but can't hear party nor can they hear me.
4. Hang up and re-dial. Sometimes system redials number often I get message that Phone is not Connected and system locks up.
5. If I try and dial 2 to 3 more times, it will work, but never on the first try.

Here's what happens with in-coming calls:
1. Nav screen displays "Incoming Call" with no caller ID.
2. Press the UConnect phone button on steering wheel.
3. Nav screen displays Connected, but caller can't hear me nor can I hear them. iPhone locks up and doesn't allow me to take call on handset or speaker.
4. Hang up. Caller tries calling me again. Sometimes system will answer but often times not.

I've even tried pressing the Audio icon on the iPhone and bypassing the UConnect altogether, but I can't even hear caller on iPhone speaker or handset. If I wait a few seconds, the system sometimes transfers the call to car speakers and I can complete conversation.

I'm so tired of it sometimes working, that I deleted the iPhone from UConnect and went back to using the iPhone by itself. I'm hoping that a software fix will correct this NOW and not 6 months from now.

I don't see how it's an iPhone issue given that bluetooth works perfectly with my BMW and my Jawbone, just not with the Jeep. I can just see Chrysler blaming Apple and vice versa. Oh joy

OH by the way, your maps release is from the 4th week of 2010 which is obviously very current, Mine is early 2008 and even in this fairly remote area there is plenty of detail and no issues.

Gracenotes 2057 is the most current North America version, I use it currently with no problems.

Great. Here we go with Apple vs Chrysler. Thanks for the link to the Apple discussion thread.

Point taken. My issue is that some us have a brand new $45K vehicle with an end of life Nav unit that doesn't work with iPhone 4 while other units like the 430N work fine. I believe that Chrysler uses the 730N on other non-Jeep vehicles, so there should be many others having issues with iPhone 4. I just hope that they can come up with a software fix soon and not play the blame game. If BMW and Mercedes can work within Apple's "closed" architecture, I would hope that Chrysler can as well.

I'm in full agreement. As annoying as Apple can be sometimes, their products (particularly their consumer products) are wildly popular, and not supporting the most popular of those is really pretty foolish. Heck, the RER came with an iPod cable- unlike the 430N, you can't use some other media player (like a Zune) with its USB cable, you are stuck with an iPod. So they recognize and wed you to an Apple product for a media player (if you don't like the incredibly moronic way the internal HD handles files), but don't spend the little time it takes to make the Bluetooth work.

IMO, Apple shouldn't be let off the hook here, but let's face it- they aren't going to change the way they do things. It's up to everybody else to keep up with Steve Jobs and his tendency to laugh maniacally in his mountain fortress while shouting "Standards? I'll show them STANDARDS! I'll show them all! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!"
