confused on depth for my 2013 jeep grand cherokee 6x9s

So i have the Alpine upgraded stereo but im looking to upgrade the speakers. I know many recommend the focals but they are a little out of my price range.

So i go on crutchfield to see what fits as far as depth goes etc. They only give me maybe 10 choices on 6x9s for my vehicle. Then i go on sonicelectronix and they give me all the options even ones crutchfield said wouldnt fit. So heres my questions.

The mounting depth on the ones for crutchfield range from 2-5/16" , 3-1/4" , 3" , 3-3/16 , 3-5/16"

So im wondering does that mean ANY speaker thats 4 ohms and has a mounting depth no bigger than 3-5/16 it will work???

Specifically looking at the Infinity Reference 3 way 6x9s the mounting depth on them say 3" Does that mean they will fit? Any help is appreciated!

This might help you:

Matching Speakers for your Car

Front Tweeters 1 1
Center 3 3 (a 4 inch speaker works as well)

Hope this helps and have fun.

Thank you. Now my next question is it ok to get the infinity reference speakers that are 2ohm? infinity reference 6032cf and the 9633cf are the 2 specific im looking at. Good sensitivity rating, and i had great experience with them in my other vehicle.

I am gonna be running 2 12's with 3500 rms so i need something that will keep up with it. Eventually i will power the speakers with an aftermarket amp instead of the factory one.

Amazon.com: Infinity Reference 6032cf 6.5-Inch 180-Watt High-Performance 2-Way Speakers (Pair): Car Electronics

Re: confused on depth for my 2013 jeep grand cherokee 6x9s

Greetings,

In your case, you need to go with components for the door. The woofer and tweeter has to be separate for the front door. They will work for rear door, however, if you get another brand for the front, the chance of them sounding uniform could be a problem.

Anyway, with the double 12's for the sub bass, the front will for sure need something to keep up with it and that you should spend a some more now, than later throwing it away. The midrange falls into this.

Best for now.

So i cant out 2 or 3 ways speakers in the front while leaving the stock tweeters? I did that in my last vehicle with bose amplified system and 2 way speaker's up front and kept the stock tweeter. It sounded great when amplified

Greetings,

The way the system is setup in both the 6 speaker and premium versions you will lose the frequency you are looking for, especially in the Alpine and HK.

Best for now.

well i ordered a LC6i to be run with my vfl 175.1 amp and then an alpine pdx-5 i have which is 75x4 then 300x1. I was gonna hook up the pdx5 to the fronts and rear door speakers, then run the 300x1 to the 3.5 front speaker just with gains all the way down. I shouldnt be worried about the rear pillar speakers because the 2 12's will over power them either way.

Or do you recommend running the front speakers and rear speakers off 4 channels then the tweeters off the 300x1?

also If i get components for the front do i use the crossovers they come with? Or do i just connect the speaker and tweeter to the stock wiring?

Greetings,

Since you have a 2013 with the old headunit, you have the opportunity to get a new one. I think in your situation, the factory Alpine DSP/AMP is going to give you injustice with your setup. You can completely by-pass the factory unit and it would not give you any problems, I did it.

Yes, with the double 12's, the rear pillar speakers are going to be drowned out. I would concentrated your speakers selection for the doors only. In addition, you can find better speakers at a reasonable price. This setup is the traditional front/rear/sub configuration. With the new headunit, you do not need the AudioControl piece and this way you can use the passive crossover with the speakers. I am not sure if the PDX.5 at 300 watts can push the double 12's that you are using.

Going with a new headunit is going to add to your budget, but you will have better sound at the end.

Best for now.

The head unit i have is the stock navigation 430n. What can i upgrade it to? I already bought the loc but can possibly cancel it. If i hook up the audiocontrol lc6i to the headunit then to the amp then use the crossovers at the amp i should be all set? The alpine pdx5 is just for speakers. The subwoofers will be run off a seperate amp.

What do you recommend for adding a 5 channel amp running 4 door speakers and the center. I planned on just using the lc6i to get better outputs of the head unit then using the crossovers at my amp to get the sound

Greetings,

I would go with a 4 channel amp for the doors. The 5th channel is overkill and not doing anything for you. Plus you can save money. Carefully search thru Cruthfield's 4 channel amp section you should find something between 200-400 bills that will work for you.

Any headunit will work with the correct harness. The 430n is not a clean unit. The system with all improvements will most likely sound worse than the Bose system you had in the past. A lot of the early JGC owners before the 2014+ switch over just changed the headunit and improvements just doing that.

Again, search thru Cruthfield for the headunits, between Pioneer and Kenwood you could get some good deals this time of year.

Best for now.

I know you keep saying the head unit is not a clean unit i get that. But hooking it up to a loc should improve the signal. Then hooking up a eq or tuning at the amp should make the quality much better am i right? I used a alpine cda 115 on my last car. 2 volt outputs the only thing it had was an ok crossover.
Let me know.

Re: confused on depth for my 2013 jeep grand cherokee 6x9s

Greetings,

The AudioControl LOC will not cleanup the signal they way you think it will. Currently the JL Audio CLeansweep or their new Flex is designed to cleanup the source. I had the 430 and could not believe how bad it was compared to other stock headunits. The modern day headunits have small DSP built-in that are designed for the front/rear/sub configuration. Therefore, you do not need to purchase any additional equipment.

Think about it.

Best for now.
