Red light camera POIs usually have to be purchased. I looked for freebies for my wife and couldn't find any. I went with a lifetime subscription to Phantom Alert (http://www.phantomalert.com/). I've uploaded the database to my wife's 430N, my portable Tom Tom and both of our smartphones. So far it's been working great.

Edit: Looks like they pulled the lifetime subscription option. Guess it was only a limited time offer.

Yes. You can even view map, then hide it and you will still be notified. For the Phantom Alert POIs I setup for my wife, she is notified by a beep when the map is hidden. When it isn't you see and hear the alerts. Most of the time my wife hides the map unless she is using NAV for directions to a new location. She loves just being able to hear the beeps. She says even if she doesn't see what the alert is for, she automatically slows down and even learned to scan for red light cameras. I think they've made her a much better driver.

Re: Custom POI Loads for 430N

Shamus, see post #28 in this thread. I chose POI Factory for my speed camera/red light camera custom POIs and they work great. Sometimes I'll get a false positive when the speed camera is facing the other direction but it's still good to get the heads up. Worth the $5 I paid, IMO.

Re: Custom POI Loads for 430N

Read the whole thread! Just wanted to make sure alerts would work when not having a destination set on the Garmin.

Re: Custom POI Loads for 430N

Yep, they work like an independent layer on your map regardless of whether or not you have a destination plugged in.

Re: Custom POI Loads for 430N

Great Cperez! After doing a lot of research, the 430n really seems to be the better of the two units offered by Jeep. If they could just get traffic into it (either by siirious or garmin) it would be perfect.... minus a few bugs of course!
