Last night, spur of the moment i decided to, i don't know, randomly tear the trunk apart and find out what i'm dealing with first hand. This part is always the worst part when you get a new car, learning all of the nuances. Granted, this project should be easier than my challenger, at least I can sit upright comfortably 99% of the time.
I am going for a simple integration, first the sub and a minidsp, if this all goes well i will probably start the speakers but for right now, i am actually half content with them given they cost $0.03 to make.
I attached a photo of kind of what i was thinking. Even when maximized volume wise with the Audio Designs enclosure, getting things near 1 cubic foot and being limited to subwoofer depth isnt really what i'm looking for, i am more looking to have options, possibly even ported. I have more been loooking at 12's like the dayton ultimax, alpine type r( i have always loved alpine), sundown audio and JL stuff too along with other "not so mainstream" brands. I am gearing for more of a sound quality setup, no competitions here, just clean sound.
In the photo i attached, i was wondering if any of you have done or seen someone cut along the yellow lines to help open that area for a bigger big and to open up options for sub sizes IE full size subs and not shallow or slim models. I plan to use the stock mounting bolts.
Also, i circle in teal this little wire end connector, anyone know that it is, i also attached a close up picture of it.
As for "the box", i haven't decided as to what materials or method of construction i am going to use. Part of me was thinking of using like an 18" sonotube and simplify construction and make a facade front to make it look more OEM. Outside of that i can design in CAD a box using angled mitered joints probably and glue/screw the box, this will probably yield the most cu/ft but increases difficulty. Last method is going the all fiberglass route. I have never done fiberglass so it would be a learning experience. Out of all these, i know that an all MDF or voidless birch is the best for resonance control but i am not so sure about a sonotube or fiberglass enclosure. Just as a side not, i have SVS cylinder subs which are sonotubes basically with zero issues but they are also a ported design.
all of your input is greatly appreciated.
