D-pillar speakers

I'm about to start an overhaul project of the sound system. I have a base model Laredo and the only option is U-connect. I'm wondering if the D-pillars are already cut out or have knockouts. Anyone know?

Re: D-pillar speakers

Only way to know is to find out for yourself.

Here is a guide on how to remove various trim in the WK2: http://wk2jeeps.com/interior/2011_wk...moval_001E.pdf

I've done a complete overhaul of the base audio system in my Laredo E. Not an easy task, but quite satisfying once everything has been upgraded. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

Re: D-pillar speakers

There is another way to know. Ask if someone else knows Yea I've already seen lots of your posts. The other things I have left to figure out is if I have an amp, tweeter replacement, and sub/amp/processor location.

Are the speakers labeled Left I/P and Right I/P in the circuit diagrams the front tweeters? If so, all diagrams with those speakers are shown as run from the amp.

And it might have been your post that I read about just popping the old tweeters out and gluing the aftermarket in. Do the factory grills come off? I hope so b/c Focal tweeters are molded into its little enclosure with grill. I will do surgery if I have to though.

As for location of all the expensive stuff... I'm really at a loss. I don't want to loose too much cargo space and I am not taking out the spare tire. My best idea is to do a spare tire enclosure and vertical mount the spare.

Thanks for the reply. You're welcome to come over and help if you want. I'll buy the Jager.

Re: D-pillar speakers

If you have a base Laredo or Laredo E, then you don't have the fancy 9-speaker Alpine system. Thus no amp.

The wiring diagram available on wk2jeeps.com is for the 9-speaker Alpine system, not the base 6-speaker system we have.

The front woofers and tweeters are wire together. A cheap crossover on the woofer separates the frequencies. The front components and rear speakers are wired directly to the headunit.

The factory tweeter grills do indeed come out. I used them as the 1" Alpine tweeters I bought fit nicely behind the stock grills.

I installed the amp under the front passenger seat. There might be room under the spare tire plastic well, however you get no airflow there so an amp might overheat.

The only subwoofer I would buy is the JL Audio stealthbox that seamlessly fits into the right side of the cargo area. That's phase 3 of my overhaul. Probably do that later on this year.

I'm very happy with my new audio setup. It was a lot of work though. The WK2 is built like a tank and not easy to disassemble.

Good luck!

Going on from this old thread. I note the 10 speaker system has 2.5" speakers in the D pillars and the HK 19 speaker system has 3.5" in the same place.

Has anyone checked to see if us with the 10 speaker system can upgrade the D pillar speakers to 3.5" easily?
