Good luck with their menu system, but I have seen the right products (suction-cup mount camera with built-in flash memory DVR) in their catalog (it arrives every few months). I've had good luck using my phone on a windshield mount to record what is in front of me. Unfortunately, you probably wouldn't have the camera running when you needed it...
Supercircuits.com has a horrible menu system and most of what they have are for police/emergency vehicles. Walmarts camera is very low-res and would make viewing a license plate almost impossible.
I'm looking for something that is mountable behind the rear view mirror, has SDXD capability, HD quality and can be hardwired to automatically turn on when the Jeep starts. Most have capacitors in place so that if power is cut off due to an accident or other issue, the capacitor can provide enough power to properly save the event.
I have done the whole internet search and most reviews on Amazon or other websites are spotty at best. I was hoping that someone who has one already could offer their input. I'd rather buy smart, then learn the hard way.
2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L and I kicked my wife out of the parking spot.
I bought one, its small with no built in viewing screen. It stores to the sd card, has a battery but relies on 12v power, I will install this weekend. I also intend to use it when I drop the vehicle off for service.
I'm in the UK where dashcams are not common, but after some research I ended up going for a Taiwanese built VicoVation-TF2+ which got good reviews and seems to be reliable (they claim a lot of taxi and truck drivers use it). I've had no problems with mine and the image quality is very good. Check out youtube for reviews....some from the US.
Its a weird market where most dashcams are sold in Asia, especially China, and Russia. The model I went for doesn't have GPS so doesn't record your speed ...and its got a simple intuitive menu system and a good quality wide angle lens.
Click the dashcam install link in my sig - some good info therein.

I also recommend the Blackvue DR500GW-HD. Great quality and options. The application shows your speed, time, date, voice records, and with a click of a button you can pull up a map that shows that route your traveling during the video. It's also viewable on your mobile device with live feed or recorded data which can be saved locally.
I got the Lukas LK-7900 after seeing some issues reported with the Blackvue. I love it so far, though I've only had it a day. Here's some video I took this evening. Night time quality is a bit worse than day time, but it's still fairly good.
