Dealership can't update uconnect 8.4 RA3 with GPS

Hi guys,

I've been battling with my Jeep dealer (based in Sydney, Aust) for a year now trying to get my 2014 Laredo Uconnect updated to also provide GPS navigation.

Initially I paid for the after market upgrade which uses a third party GPS device and sits in behind the dash. I wasn't happy with the product, particularly because it cost me $2000 to get it. After explaining to the dealer the shortfalls of the 3rd party GPS (doesn't mute or lower volume on radio/phone calls etc when navigating, need to pull dash apart to access and update maps) they agreed that this was pretty poor and so offered a genuine jeep upgrade to the existing head unit.

Now I picked up the vehicle a number of times after they supposedly completed the update. Problem is it doesn't work. The unit by default has me located in Brazil, has no GPS signal, seems to be using North American software judging by the 9-1-1 rear vision mirror warning screen that flashes up regularly.

They've defaulted the unit to standard software a number of times, tried loading the software again, tried various software updates and still they can't get it to work. They have a company called Doyle's doing this work for them and despite Doyle's saying this update should work fine, they simply can't get it to work as it should. Doyle's have also been in touch with the USA to get assistance (so they tell me anyway)

Now they want to give up, and just give me back the 3rd party unit that i was never happy with. I advised them that they need to prove to me that his update is not possible on this version of the Uconnect system (8.4 RA3/VP3) before I accept them just giving up. I work in IT and told them you've tested all the software variations, now you need to try it on a different piece of hardware.

Now given these updates are tied to a VIN they are unwilling to do a warranty claim on the hardware which is the only way they can try it on different hardware. I told them until you try it on a different Uconnect unit I'm not going to let this go... no matter what. So as you can imagine it's now getting ugly.

- Has anyone experienced this themselves on an Aussie 8.4 RA3?
- Should the GPS update work as simply as expected when activated the correct way through jeep?
- Is there any additional hardware required to support the GPS/NAV software update?
- Any ideas what may be the problem?

Please Help!!

You probably need to reach higher up then whoever you are dealing with at the moment. I am sure someone here might have some Chrysler corporate emails or phone numbers.

Take Honeywell. I got more success getting info and pricing calling UK where it is made and sold vs. dealing with the US side that only retailed it.
