I took delivery of my overland today, which was built this month. it has a garmin 430 rhb. I asked the guy if it had live traffic updates and he said no. Then i asked if this was the older radio, as i thought i had read here that the new overlands all were equipped with the 730rhr (is that right?). he said the 430 was the best unit and as far as he knew that is what they have switched to. i thought it was the opposite.
I love the vehicle but wondered if i got the best radio/nav unit or the old one. Thanks for any help.
Here's the chronology, as I have gathered from months of following the builds.
1. When announced the Overland was supposed to have the 730N RHR standard but that radio was delayed so the RER was substituted in early builds.
2. Soon after production began supply issues forced Jeep to install the 430N (RHB) and they lowered the price $305 and the RER became an option.
3. In some late Nov, early Dec builds the RER was installed without a price increase, probably due to 430N supply issues.
4. With the introduction of the Summit the new 730N RHR was standard but delayed so the initial build of Summits had the 430N installed.
5. The RHR became an option on non-summits as a $465 option, 430N remains the standard radio.
So, if you don't have a Summit and didn't see a $465 730N option on the sticker you have the correct radio.
Thanks so much everyone for clarifying! I will detail the car and send pics as soon as i can. What an upgrade though from my 05 ltd. The ride, interior, look-really excellent.
Yes, there has recently been a period of time where the RHB 430N was low in supply, so they were forcing dealers to order the 730N RHR as an extra cost option (i.e. they could not order an overland with the base 430N radio). I believe the supply of radios was replenished sometime mid April, so overlands may be getting the 430N standard again.
