Digital Output on 2012+?

I'm in the market for a new car very soon (got rear-ended 2 weeks ago) and I'm leaning towards a new Cherokee. I'd really prefer the diesel version but that's neither here nor there.

Anyhow, as I'm looking at the radio I'm wondering if there is a digital signal that comes out of the deck or if it's straight up analog? I'd like to feed a digital signal to a Mosconi 6to8 processor so that I can still utilize the factory deck and controls and a digital out would help. Thanks gang!

Re: Digital Output on 2012+?

It's not gong to have a digital output like you're hoping.

It uses a hybrid where some information is sent digitally, some is sent over analog. Essentially what that means to you is if you want to add in a processor, it has to go BEHIND the factory amp, because in front of it there's no volume information in the analog signal. Outside of that, you can replace the factory HU.

I'm not aware of any vehicles that have a digital input lie what you're hoping for with that unit, it's set up for the handful of aftermarket units that will have that digital output.

Thanks for the help. Guess I'd be going to a JBL MS-8 after the amp then. I'd rather retain the stock unit for a stealthy look and steering wheel integration.

Greetings,

You should also look at the Helix P-DSP processor. You will have excellent control over the sound tuning. I am not sure when the C-DSP (dual processor) is arriving in the US. These units are similar to the functionality of the Mosconi 6to8.

Best for now.
