Re: Do Not Try This at Home

OMG, Moose. How did you handle the stress of the interior being pulled apart (I'm thinking the Mel Gibson scene in Braveheart)...and you WATCHED? Glad the results are going the way you want. You know, I have the 800 number for Modders Anonymous if you need it.

Re: Do Not Try This at Home

I hate you Moose. I really do.

I listened to some Focals (excellent choice btw!) and was blown away by their performance. I was actually considering swapping out the entire head unit for a new Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT

and replacing the entire sound system. (until I got the estimate) I've seen the installation in a new '11 Laredo at a nearby dealer using stock speakers. It sounded much better than what is stock now in the WK2. (better detail in the mid and high ranges, however, the bass was lacking)

Congrats and enjoy!

Thank God 3 decades of jet noise has ruined my hearing! Otherwise, I'd be jumping right in there with you...awesome!

I have sonic envy...

Re: Do Not Try This at Home

Thanks to those expressing outreach and concern about my mod fever, your empathy is much appreciated. Just don't hate me because I'm, well, uh, er, you know..............insane.

Yes, the WK2 is a keeper despite my lusting after the 2012 SRT8. I was prepared to drop significantly more coin on any number of competing SUVs, so getting this truck rigged fully is actually reasonable by comparison. The bigger concern is that I farck sonething up.

Gotta say, as some of you note, these Focals are unbelievable. These are the budget versions, we also listened to their top end set of 6" components and were blown away. The PDX 5 amp is also a huge step up as the stock amp was either being diluted across too many speakers, or was only peak rated for 500 watts rather than RMS. Proper crossover and sub setup went a long way as well. Again, I'm not an audiophile, but this is a huge difference.

Re: Do Not Try This at Home

Moosehead
You are correct that the Focals are awesome!
I just got my GC back and I went with the KRX2 6 1/2" in the front ran by an ARC SE4100 amp.
i alos put in the JL Stelathbox made especially for the new GC. It is pretty nice and the bass is super clean. Again, I am running an ARC SE2150 amp for it.
I did replace the RER unit with an Alpine W900BT for a cleaner signal source. It is very clean but I did lose some functionality.

I am somewhat of an audiophile and I will never be able to make my cars sound as good as my home set-up. BUT.....this stereo is so much better than stock I can not even tell you how pleased I am!

Not sure what pictures anybody would like but let me know and I will se what i can come up with.

Re: Do Not Try This at Home

I really like the factory head unit for my needs. I would love to do something similar with my Summit. The only dislike is when driving yesterday with all the windows down on the highway you can barely hear the stereo. It just needs some more power!!
Moose, can you list all the part numbers of everything you are using?
I have no idea when I ask this next question so forgive me if its too funny, do you think you can make a schematic of the wires that needed decoding to figure out for the rest of us what to hook up where. Im sure this last one is an extreme tall order.

Awesome job BTW!!!!!
