Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

When browsing for 2015 Jeeps with 8.4AN Radio's

I noticed a lot of them had some comment like "See Dealer for Nav Activation".

But right next to it, it would list HD Radio etc. So I know it's an 8.4AN.

Do you have to pay or negotiate for Nav now on a 8.4AN?

Is that comment on Activation just sloppy still only apply to 8.4A Radios.

This was on an Overland.

I saw this comment at many dealers.

Re: Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

That's just standard disclaimer language they apply across the product.

The Overland and Summit come with the Nav activated. I think on lower trims it cost about $500 to activate it. Someone else can confirm if that's true or not.

Dealer activated NAV is $595 or so depending on whether they are marking it up or giving you a discount. I paid $595.00. Takes about 30 minutes for them to do it. Once done the NAV icon shows up on the radio. Pretty slick.

Re: Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

If you activate the NAV on an 8.4A does it function exactly like an 8.4AN or are there differences? In other words are all of the 8.4AN NAV options/functions/settings present in the 8.4A after NAV is activated?

Basically. You do not get voice input or full 3d maps from what I understand. You need to upgrade your radio if you want the "full" NAV package.

They were not the same on 2014.

8.4AN gave you HD Radio and Backup Camera as well as pre-activated NAV.

I really like the HD Radio and was the reason I had upgraded it from 8.4A, not knowing you get the Backup Camera.

Re: Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

The included 8.4AN with 2015 Overland didn't need any NAV activation.
Same as 2014.

Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

Correct. Only 8.4a needs activation.

The differences are slim but there.

8.4an has HD radio and nav with traffic link and more advanced voice recognition. It also supports 3d maps in urban locations.

The 8.4a needs nav activated for around $600. It supports voice input but it will make you say the address number, then the street address, then the city and state. Etc all broken into steps while the 8.4an can take the complete address in one single entry. It also doesn't support the urban 3d maps or HD radio.

Re: Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

Well when I got my 2015 Limited with Lux Package I thought it came with Nav and was utterly disappointed when I found out it came without. Sure enough the next day I got it activated and because of my attitude they charge only $100+ tax. Anyways, after realizing my activated Nav was inferior to the one that comes activated I am still ticked off to this day. For them to want to charge $595 just to activate Navigation and u can buy a $200 Nav with way more features is ridiculous. Other than the Nav directions on the dashboard it's really not worth no $595. Their claim is that the activated one is 16gb flash drive and the non activated one is 8 gig so all the features cant be added to the non activated one. Really now, you're telling me Chrysler couldn't just make all the radios come with 32GB drive. I'm pretty sure there is enough room in the radio for them to store a bigger hard drive. I like my Jeep but for $43K I expected my factory Nav to be top of the line.

Re: Does 8.4AN on 2015 need Nav activation

I too just had the dealer activated Nav system in my 2015 Grand Cherokee.
After several hours on the UConnect tech assistance, no one there could tell me why the Traffic Alert feature wasn't functioning.
The next day my salesmen called and told me traffic alert only available on factory installed Nav.
My Garmin GPS does ten times as more things for a fifth of what 8.4a
does.

You're not missing much with the Traffic thingy and it's part of the Sirius XM. I found it utterly useless. And requires the Sirius subscription to continue it.
