Re: Does the 2014 JGC with 8.4AN play VIDEO?

I think these units are a bit proprietary to do what you ask. Do we even know what OS they us? Linux? BTW you can get a hdmi to RCA converter if you wanted to play video from your phone or anything that has an hdmi out.

As for actually playing a video file direct from a SD card, all while in motion would require some serious effort IMO. The demand may just not be there, especially since messing with the OS/software would surely void any warranties. At least the lockpick can be completely removed without a trace.

I had a lock pick with an hdmi to RCA converter in my 2012. It worked but quality took a huge hit.

The SD card play back actually wouldn't take that much work. As long as there was space on the hard drive (which in sure there is) for a video player software the is would just need a soft key for it and the software would have all the codec built into it.

The demand is stronger then you think for systems like this to do more then just play music and act as a gps. Even if the play back in motion is disabled the ability to watch from the main screen should have been included from the start since the DVD player was pulled.

it uses QNX OS. Not proprietary...anyone can be a developer for QNX (since BB uses it). The problem is its a closed system, you cant just install another app without figuring out how to "sign" it (among other things)

Im not sure about the video playback either, there is no "app" to allow it. Lockpick says you can if its equipped, but i dont think there is even an option.

THe screen is not even close to HD, so its going to take a hit no matter what. Also, there is no hard drive in these units. They have 512mb of space..and thats all used by the OS. When you download / install the updates, they are like 500mb and you have to have 2GB+ on the USB stick to install since the unit uses the extra space on the USB to do the file functions.

as far as NAV while moving.. if you are in the US just use the voice function. I have only had it not be correct once. just do it like this:

example 125 East Main St, CityName, State

"FIND ADDRESS ONE TWO FIVE EAST MAIN STREET CITY NAME STATE"

I would also be interested in custom development for the UConnect 8.4 system, but I also agree that it probably won't be easy.

There was another forum member that was talking about it pretty seriously, but I haven't seen him around for a while. His username was Geox or something like that.

Re: Does the 2014 JGC with 8.4AN play VIDEO?

The Uconnect has 16gb of storage and only 512mb of ram.

"The DM3730 is complemented by 512 MB of memory, which we have to imagine is sufficient for the closed platform. That capacity isn't surprising; it's the same amount of RAM that Parrot used in its Asteroid Smart double-DUN head unit (see Parrot Asteroid Smart Review: Android In Your Car's Dash? for more detail). You do get plenty of on-board storage, though. Uconnect Access features 16 GB of eMMC flash for the operating system, maps, and apps. There werenít any downloads available during our week with the Grand Cherokee, but Chrysler promises that Pandora, Aha, iHeartRadio, and Slacker Radio are coming soon."

I am trying to figure out a way to allow the system to download a video player.

Try something called Nav TV it allows you to play video from either a phone or a I pod it also allows you to plug in a portable DVD play all available while car is in motion

Could you point me to instructions for grounding of wire responsible for Nav lockout?
