Does the 2014 JGC with 8.4AN play VIDEO?

Either from SD card or USB? Format? Haven't had time to play with it...but anyone's quick answer would really help!

Thanks!

Never tried it. There's a thread somewhere on the forum that discusses all the usable formats.

Anyone know a way to hack this or create a custom rom that allows SD card video playback?

Re: Does the 2014 JGC with 8.4AN play VIDEO?

With the radio/head unit being the the heart of the uConnect system, and that system being so finicky for now, wouldn't that be a bit risky. If the system had a stable base line to start with it might be worth tinkering with. But who knows what will show up?

I think the base is stable enough for most people to start working on a custom ROM. The issue is i wonder if they will ever be able to decipher the software and be able to

1.) allow video playback/mirroring from external sources to the main screen
2.) allow video playback from the SD card, connect to an alternate WiFi device (ie allow it to connect to your personal hotspot instead of paying for the crappy service on the one that comes with it)

Once we get people to start going through what this "mini computer" can do that we WANT it to do, regardless of what Chrysler wants us to do with it the possibilities are exciting.

I had the CHR-550 and it worked great for the DVD playback and the mirroring of the old Iphone connector was actually pretty good. However, the new lightning connector or android options were not supported for mirroring. I ended up making a mod that allowed lightning -> HDMI -> converter -> RCA -> Lockpick. The quality took a hit because it and the converter sound was effect by engine noise.

Anyword on f the new lockpick will support SD card video playback? or even HDMI input?

If I can get my hands on the wiring diagram, I could build a small work around for now.

I know what the proposed lockpick can do but I'm looking for HDMI input and SD card playback support I'm addition to nav lock out.

Nav lock out is easily fixed by grounding the speed control wire in the back of your radii, so you don't really need a lockpick if that's all you're looking to do. The video input is just a switch for the rear view input and auto support. The lockpick does offer a nice interface though.

I'm just looking to get a moding community going that will push these new mini computer radios into a much more usable device, similar to a tablet.
