DVD on while driving

Has anyone tried bypassing the parking brake switch, in order to get DVD on main console while driving?
Was thinking of adding a switch to parking brake wiring and wondering what else it might affect.
Would rather not install MyGig, as I understand you loose some functions.

Thanks,

BTW, it may take more than a parking brake switch. I think there is also speed and transmission gear on the com bus to fake out. This may be the reason you lose a few features with MyGig or lockpick, or others.

Oh, one may want this feature because the passenger may be interested in a movie and may not want to look goofy sitting alone in the rear seat :)

Of course, it's for the passengers. I don't have the rear entertainment option. This way I don't need to talk on long drives...

Thanks Coldcase. You're probably right.

I can understand that people are not crazy about plunking down the wampum for the Lockpick, but this is really worth your time and money to invest if you want to have DVD on while driving...

typically it deactivates the VSS (vehicle speed sensor), which monitors the movement and speed for GPS purposes. If it is inactive, everything will work as if it's sitting still. This is what the lockpick does in my Tahoe and I know most work the same way. It has nothing to do with your brake. And I agree with the above statement...you're not missing much.

I know for a fact that Star Scan will NOT allow DVD in motion on a 2011 WK2 w/ 430RBZ head unit. :(

I've looked around, but cannot find instructions for the newest LockPick. I've had people say it's simple, but I'm not sure as to their skill level to know if it's truly simple or not... would anyone be able to provide directions or at least give a good idea of how 'plug and play' the V4 lock pick is? Thank you!

Truth be told, I want it to be able to input NAV while moving. I input roughly 8-10 address any given day, and the damn address book is just about useless for my needs - I have 850 different addresses I need in there and you can't import a single one - has to be done individually!!

If you have the 430N (RHB) you can bulk import contacts as points of interest (POIs). I haven't yet tried it, but it is definitely possible with the Garmin interface. If you're so inclined, do a Google search on "POI import 430N". The time consuming part is getting the geo coordinates for each contact, so you'll have to weigh which is easier/faster.

I'm looking forward to loading all sorts of information in to the unit, like red light/speed camera locations, favourite stores, etc. This appears to be one significant advantage over the 730Ns.

You need a relay. find the wire that connects to your parking brake and run it into the relay. then use the power from your headunit to plug into the relay and bam. might be a little different for a stock headunit but it has the same principle to follow for bypassing.

Also the way i described it will cost you $10 vs a lot more.

youtube it if you have any troubles dude.

From what I have read, the DVD player is linked to the transmission so that the movie player is only operable in park. What ever signal is given from the trans if this is the case, should be able to be duplicated. I will play with it this spring when I have more time and let everyone know what I find.

I would think there is more/less involved, as the rear-seat entertainment package should (can someone verify this) allow video to the rear monitor(s) even in motion. I believe the rear monitors get their video from the head-unit.

All of this is supposition, as I didn't opt for the entertainment package (got the Pano-roof instead). Lockpick or similar in my future....
