OOPS! I am sorry! I did not mean to offend. I was just trying to eliminate lockpick users from this discussion.
In my defence I did say "thanks".

Re: DVD Play on 430N

From the replies so far I see three states that can view video but are on the list supplied to me by chrysler saying that they do not ship them that way. These are New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

For those of you who may not know I started this thread several months ago after I received my new JCC overland with the 430N. The owners manual for the 430N media center it came with said you could play dvds on it if the vehicle was in park. The manual also said that in some states it was not allowed to due to state laws. I did some online searches and could not find any Tennessee laws that would prevent this. So, I went to my dealer and asked them why it would not work. They were very nice and the service manager made a call to someone about my question. I was later informed by my service department that it was illegal in Tennessee. It seemed odd to me that someone would write a law like this that would prevent you from viewing video on you cars video screen even if you were stopped and in park, so I sent a request to Chrysler for a Tennessee statue number that they are referencing. It has taken me over a month to do all this but I finally have an answer to my questions that I thought others might be interested in what I found out. Chrysler sent me the Tennessee law that they are using to disable video playback, but the law they are refering to only applies to vehicles in motion and without the ability to play only while stopped like the 430N does. So in short there is no Tennessee law which prevents it, and after I called them on it they basically agreed, but said it didn't matter. Chryslers reply to me about this is posted below:

"Thank you for your follow-up email to the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center. In States where the law prohibits driver video viewing to any degree, weship the vehicle from the factory with the radio set to not play video. Currently, all States prohibit front seat video to some degree except: AR, DE, GA, HI, ID, IA, KY, MS, MO, MT, ND, & OH. In States where video viewing is allowed when the vehicle is not moving, and is in ?Park?, your dealer has the ability to switch the radio so that it will accommodate this. Please be aware, just because the law may allow it, does not mean the dealer has to do this. It is just like any other service, they may refuse it if they so choose. In addition, there may bea fee associated with this service. You are responsible for following State law where you drive, as well as the laws where you live."

My next step is to contact the dealer and request again they turn it on. I found all this shocking that Chrysler would disable a function even though there was no law against it. It is even more confusing that it seems they are shipping to New Mexico, Pennsylvinia, and Virginia with video enabled against their own rules.

Re: DVD Play on 430N

I live in Virginia as well and have no trouble viewing DVD while in park. Could it be that my dealer enabled it? It seems to me that if it is not illegal in TN then your dealer should be able to enable your as well.

Bozer, hit the eject button in the upper right corner of the 430N and the screen moves to reveal a slot to insert CDs or DVDs.

Sorry but I gotta flame someone over this. It is the epitome of nanny state BS and Chrysler legal eagles need to grow a pair, or they need to issue a refund to any owner who shows that their vehicle has been delivered in a state that has these laws. You aren't getting what you paid for. Sheesh.

Re: DVD Play on 430N

I live in Maryland, but bought the car in Hawaii..I too was also having problems with getting playback with no video but had sound. For me to get it to work, I have to have the car in park and the ebrake engaged, then I would have the option to view video, whether or not the engine was running. Hope this helps.

Hawaii is one of the states where Chrysler does not block video viewing while in park.

Re: DVD Play on 430N

In FL and the video works fine while in park... Turns off the moment you go into gear, and is enabled again when returned to park...
