Easier way to use the navigation?

Nearly anytime I need driving directions, i use my iPhone Maps over bluetooth. Simply because its a lot faster to find a destination. The downside, is then I cannot list to the radio/sat.

The in car navigation is just horrible as you need to specifically type out the address which takes a long time. I also don't think I can find a point of interest that is hundreds of miles away for long road trips.

I thought at one point, if a contact in my phone had an address, I could pull that up in the jeep navigation without having to manually type the address. Is that an option?

Is there an easier way to use the navigation im just not aware of?

VR works quite well once you get the hang of the needed commands.

Use the uconnect app on your iPhone and send the location to your Jeep navigation before you set out. Or even use it in the car to send the location. The app search function works quite well.

If you use the search function in the app it gives an option to use your contacts.

Honestly, your concerns are the exact reason I've stopped using the navi system in my Jeep and fully regret the money I spent to get it.

I love that on my Android phone I can just do a Google voice search for a location, then just tell it to navigate to it - no specific address required. It has no issue navigating to my address book items.

Plus, Google maps often gives me multiple options for routes depending upon whether I'm looking to hit the interstate or relax and see the sights on secondary roads.

The only thing I use the navi system for is occasions where I'm just out exploring and want a quick method to get a route home, which the "Navigate Home" option does well enough.

As far as the audio, I just use the phone speaker for navigation. It's loud enough to be heard over the radio.

This.
If it weren't for this function I wouldn't use the Navi system at all.

Re: Easier way to use the navigation?

The nav system is disappointing, I'm sad that I find myself reaching for my phone whenever I want to get somewhere as quickly as possible. some of the routes that uconnect comes up with are just crazy. and the traffic avoidance... shut it off. the number of times that thing has put me on roads with even more traffic because it doesn't have data on the road, just doesn't work real well. google maps is way beyond it. or navigator app if you arnt in cell range downloads the entire map database to your phone. both free. vs continuing to pay $150 for every uconnect update and still be out of date. sad how in dash systems didn't keep up. uconnet is quick to pickup on not a bunch of complex menus like some cars so that is a plus

Re: Easier way to use the navigation?

I never used menus with Jeep or Ford navigation. Just press the button and tell it where you want to go. UConnect is easier to use than the Ford.

Re: Easier way to use the navigation?

New Jeep owner here (2016 GC) and I too find the Nav system disappointing.

I am used to using VR to tell my phone where to go. For example, "Navigate to Courtyard Hotel". Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the Jeep's Nav system works with named locations as it always tries to send me to a street address or city name. A decent workaround I've found is to use the Yelp app and use voice destinations that way for businesses at least.

Trying to move the map with fingers, either to pinch and zoom or just move around the map has terrible response times. Sometimes it takes 10 seconds to even respond to touch. Any tips on improving its performance?

I'm sure once I settle into the Jeep and the new-ness high wears off, I'll probably rarely use the Nav again. I'm sure with the release of CarPlay enabled things will get better, but I wish my system was more responsive.

Re: Easier way to use the navigation?

Instead of navigate to, try 'find nearest'.

Each system has its own vocabulary list. Without learning the language it is hard to communicate.

I'm not sure the Jeep will be as good as other systems, but to criticise without reading the instructions seems silly.

Well thanks! Somehow I overlooked that when looking at the list of voice commands. That certainly will make things more convenient.

Re: Easier way to use the navigation?

I find that the NAV system won't recognize anything I say. I'm from Michigan and "don't think" I have an accent, but apparently Uconmect thinks I do. I've tried annunciating simple things like well known places and the thing still cannot recognize my voice. My '12 could understand literally anything I said. I'd send in a complaint but Jeeps customer service is so terrible.

Is it responding incorrectly, or not responding at all?
Could it be set for a different language?
