I am planning to order a WK2 with the 430N (Garmin) soon. Knowing that I will move to Europe next year, my understanding is that I can easily update the map material of the 430N, right?
This is not necessarily true. While there may be no technical reasons to prevent that it may be licensing issue. At least this is how it seems to be with standalone Garmin GPS units. If you purchased one with maps for USA (model 1450 for instance, I have it) you cannot purchase additional European maps for this model from Garmin.
What I am saying is that you need to find official support channel for Garmin map update (I think this will be Chrysler or Garmin) and ask them
Also I recently upgraded maps on my standalone 1450 (one map upgrade is free on newly purchased unit if it didn't come with the latest map set) and it had to be activated. European maps were not available as an option to purchase online (my 1450 came with North America maps).
Unfortunately, the Navigation/DVD systems used in U.S. specification vehicles is different from those used in our vehicles sold overseas. The two systems are not compatible. The U.S. based system only functions in North America, and is not reconfigurable to function in Europe.
Here is the official answer from Garmin:
Via our SW engineers, the MY11RHB HU (430N Media Center) will not accept or support an alternative map into the unit. A MY11RHB is set for a NA+Mex update only.
That is it. I will go for the Laredo X with sunroof then.
