Ever seen a real underseat sub?

Me either but I'm getting closer. First post, not new to the Mopar forums. Having a base 6 speaker system I'm lacking low end. Searching through my vehicle I found the storage bin under the drivers seat. After doing a lot of measuring, a little modification and some wood working I was able to make a .33 enclosure for a 8" Infinity reference sub. This is a very highly rated 250w RMS little beast. Pictures will be following in the next week. The box is built, waiting for the glue to dry. It'll be powered by a RF 500xd1 class D. Good day all.

Greetings and welcome,

I have seen a number of them in my day.

Bring on the pictures and the summary once you finish. It also sounds like after you do this, you might be upgrading some of the other speakers.

Have fun.

Best for now.

Re: Ever seen a real underseat sub?

Great idea, but depending on your options, some people have modules in that area.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

Re: Ever seen a real underseat sub?

Your correct, I have a crew with leather and memory so the memory module is in the box. The wiring goes through the side and can be pulled through. The module gets plugged back in and tucked on the outboard side. You could easily fit 3 modules in the space between the door sill and the outside of the cubby. I got it finished up yesterday and it really pounds. Easily the best audio upgrade I've ever made. Talk about a real stealth box. Pics will come up tonight if I can find the time

Re: Ever seen a real underseat sub?

Here it is, note this is the prototype just for proof of concept. Version 2 will have a double baffle with a recessed sub and room for a waffle grille. And yes the seat is still capable of full travel and none of the wiring harness to the seat has been touched. The only real mod that had to be done to the cubby was to remove the bottom 4in. The inner shape of the tub did not match the floor pan and it would have cost valuable volume. The enclosure is made from 1/2 MDF with corner braces, its very strong for its size due to not having any 90 degree angles. All corners are mitered, glued and nailed.

It sound great, handles power with ease. About 1/4 lb of poly fill is added to make up for the smaller size. I pounded the crap out of this for 5 hours on a road trip. No issues at. Its like combining a sub with a dedicated massage chair. And like I stated before all the modules have room to tuck outside the cubby on the outboard side. The only thing left to do is put conduit on the wires and trim the original cover to fit around the enclosure.

The picture of the cubby removed is one I obtained for the purpose of fitting. Excuse the dirt, its been a busy project.
