Factory Amp RMS?

Does anyone know how many RMS the Factory amp has per channel? Also what size are the speakers in the A piller in the back of the GC? 3 1/2?

Re: Factory Amp RMS?

HAHA I was looking at replacing the front doors back doors and dash speaker with Polk Audio DB's there sensitivity is 93%! So I figured the factory amp should be able to power theoes, then get a JL XD 600.1, a JL audio stealth box and use audio control LC2I to hook it into the factory system.... Sonic elextronix $1300 for everything lol

Re: Factory Amp RMS?

Greetings,

I have yet to come across any data on how the digital 506 watts of the Alpine Premium factory 7.1 speaker system is broken down in terms of power and the actual crossover points.

The following thread is the closet that has established the crossover points:

Factory Frequency Response

Since you have to work with 506 watts, if you want to base everything on the following assumption:
The 8 inch dual voice coil 2 ohm sub woofer has to take close to 200 watts.

The 6x9 in the front door around 75 watts.

And the rest of the 7 speakers around 30 - 35 watts.
I forgot if the 506 watt number is indeed RMS or short term (peak) musical power. It it the short term, then the RMS will be significantly less. If that is the case, then you know why this system is bad and other competing car manufactures sound better.

Unfortunately, I do not have any testing equipment left to determined the wattage coming out. For me, this does not matter, for when I do perform my upgrade, the speakers that I will be using will require some nice clean amps which I already have. This way, I can get a better sound and imagery for which a sound system should have. In all these threads all our fellow members that have replace equipment, they have constantly report greater improvement in their sound systems finally.

Best for now.

Greetings,

See my post above this one on the wattage breakdowns.

In regards to the Polk Audio speakers, they are an efficient speaker. IMO, in the short term they would sound better than the factory speakers, however, I do believe that an aftermarket amp brings out the quality of the sound.

Since you did not mention which head unit you have and if it s one of the 430's, an aftermarket head unit will clean up the sound and will be a nice bump up to better. The Polk's will sound better, but, not best.

Best for now.

I haven't heard the new sound system in the overland but I hope it's not totally bass with no mids or highs.if so they will be getting swapped out that's for sure.

Re: Factory Amp RMS?

The factory amp has a 30A fuse. Given the efficiency of modern amps and relatively short run from its power source, I'd be inclined to believe that the ~500W rating is in fact, RMS.

If the new Alpine system is the same as the old one, you should be happy. The Alpine system has good mids and highs, decent midbass (I wouldn't mind an improvement here), good bass, but not a lot of sub-bass (but then again, it's only an 8" sub, and isn't designed to go pounding down the block).
