Factory sub (maybe)

Hey guys....

I have the 2011 Overland. I know there have been a few posts where people have replaced the factory sub with the JL unit that replaces the entire panel. Although the unit is nice, I'm tryign to keep everything "look" as stock as possible.

So, this is what my plan was:
- replace the stock speaker with the JL Audio ZR800-CW. Due to the depth restrictions, this speaker "should" fit perfect.
hxxp://www.crutchfield.com/p_136ZR800CW/JL-Audio-ZR800-CW.html
- add a amp with high level speaker inputs and a wired bass control knob. The 2 models I am looking at are:
a) JL Audio JX250/1 (dimensions 11L x 7-3/4"W x 2-1/8"H)
b) JL Audio XD300/1(dimensions 6-7/8"W x 2-1/16"H x 7-1/8")

Now...both amps are high quality, the XD300 is much smaller, but 100 bucks more. My main intent is to try and fit the amp behind the panel where the subwoofer is. I saw some pics in another post where they took the panel out...but trying to geustimate whether or not the jx250 will fit.

For those that have replaced their factory sub, can anyone tell me what kind of clearance is in that subwoofer panel? Trying to figure which of the above amps would fit (if any).

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!!!

Re: Factory sub (maybe)

The factory enclosure is made of a flimsy plastic that will cause a very bad vibration sound which will be a problem

Actually the JL box looks very much like factory.
I sold my Jeep to get a F250 so I have a black JL Stealthbox with only about 5 ours on it.
Willing to let it go for $550 delivered (or make an offer)

Get the JL box looks great and sounds even better. Fairly easy to install.

Re: Factory sub (maybe)

My audio installer and I ripped my panels apart to try and figure out what we could 'fit' in the stock area. I know it sounds like you really want to drop the JL sub component into the existing stock piece but our hands on research more than convinced us to either 1) get a stealth box or 2) go full custom. That plastic is garbage, it's worthless and will not give you little sonic improvement from that JL sub component. Laws of physics govern quality bass.
Regarding amp, you may try to sneak it into the spare tire cavity, there is room on the walls and I'm sure an HD JL750 would fit, or otherwise.

Re: Factory sub (maybe)

just get the stealth box and be done with it. You will not regret it!
