Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep Recall 1.4 Million Vehicles Due to Hack

"Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will patch 1.4 million US vehicles following the reveal of a hacking method by Wired. The "voluntary safety recall" -- which it seems will come in the form of a USB dongle -- applies to vehicles equipped with 8.4-inch touchscreen in-car-entertainment systems. Affected cars include Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee SUVs, Dodge Ram pickups and many others."

So... has anyone received this USB? I'm wondering if local dealerships will offer them? Yes, I know there is a procedure to put this new Software onto a USB but I've been unable to successfully update my UConnect software using that method.

And in related news, the Feds are now opening a probe into this whole Hacking event.

Please God make it stop.
Im done with everyone freaking out about "hacking".
If people only knew how many things they own are capable of being hacked there would be mass riots in the streets.
No one wants to hack your car. Get over it.

Re: Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep Recall 1.4 Million Vehicles Due to Hack

A. I'm not "freaking out" about a possible hack of my vehicle. I simply posted a thread about a recent development related to that hacking issue.

B. I also asked if anyone had specific information about this recently announced RECALL that is directly related to that hacking issue.

C. I've worked in telecommunication for several decades. I've hacked my share of platforms and understand how hard compromising the systems on these vehicles would be for most. Be I'm also not blind or ignorant enough to believe it CAN'T happen (especially since folks have just proven that it CAN). I'm also sure that before an exploit could be released in the wild, a fix would be widely available (and it looks like this recent update is that fix).

Read the half dozen threads already started on this subject. More info on this forum than necessary already.

Yawn

Quote:
Although the company clearly accepts that the issues are serious, it notes that it's "unaware of any injuries related to software exploitation, nor is it aware of any related complaints, warranty claims or accidents independent of the media demonstration." It adds that it's "conducting this campaign out of an abundance of caution."

Are the reports true FCA knew of the hack since last October?

odds are more likely to total your brand new jeep then get it replaced and total it again than getting "hacked" this is a non issue generated by the media to get clicks.

Exactly. The media needs to focus more on how to prevent ID theft; credit card number theft; etc. - I've had three different credit cards compromised over the last two years (didn't cost me anything, thank goodness). Those are the hacks we need to worry about - not some professional pizza-eating basement dwellers looking for their 15 minutes of fame by arranging a hack of an FCA vehicle.

To answer your question, I have not received the USB memory stick yet. Probably will take a few weeks to start sending them out.

I installed the new software last Wednesday. Now to figure out how to get rid of the recall alert on my owners page of Jeep .com

I've already installed the new software too, and I also have the recall notice on my account. I'm sure there will be instructions included with the USB stick we'll be receiving on how to report to Chrysler that the new software update has been applied, which will then clear the recall notice from our Mopar Owner Connect accounts.
