As others stated, the tweeters are ear piercing and down right annoying. The shop had to detune the heck out of the bit ten to make them sound good.
Now, I have a theroy why some love them and others hate them
Me, the gf and one other friend found them harsely annoying...others and the guy at the shop didnt understand why.
My guess...its like a dog whistle, only dogs can hear it...the focals put out a frequency that some can hear, others can't
Oh there's no doubt that they'll make your ears bleed. This is the primary reason I'm recommending CDT to anyone with the JGC because the silk they use is warm and beautiful and will make blending into the rest of the system so much easier.

So if folks aren't using the focal tweeters that come with the 6x9s then what is everyone using?

It's pointless to buy a component set when you won't use both components. Hell they don't even come with crossovers. See the link below. They will not murder your ears with tiny little knives AND you can turn around and sell the crossovers!

Are you comparing this set to the focal set? I think the focals have a bit higher sensitivity.

They do indeed but the CDT is still more efficient than OEM and unlike the focal set the tweeter isn't going to blast the woofer out of the water nor make your ears bleed. If you ever have the chance to listen to them, ANY of them including their sub lines do it.

Which CDT speakers are good? They have titanium tweeters etc and everything in between.

They sure do. Stick with silk unless you have an active crossover somewhere which unless you replace the head unit or DSP you won't.

I plan on keeping the head unit,I just want to initially upgrade the sound and then go from there. Using new 6x9s and tweeters should be better then what's stock at this point.

When you look at madisound.com or part-express.com websites, the raw speakers that you see are the speaker company that built them for the major name brands. Madisonsound selection has more of the hi-end European raw drivers. For example, Polk uses a lot products from Peerless, Vifa and even Scanspeak. Focal manufactures their own.

Best for now.

That's interesting to know. I put together a pair of speaker cabinets for my home stereo set-up, using Scanspeak speakers that I bought from Parts Express, about 10-11 years ago. LOVE them. The bass response from their 10" speakers, has people think I have a subwoofer hidden somewhere in the house, and the clarity of the vocals is outstanding.

If you have the option of getting the HK, then I recommend it. The difference in the extra cost would be the cost of a minor upgrade for the Alpine. So you could imagine what the cost of a full blown upgrade will cost.

Best for now.

Just traded in my limited for a high altitude with the HK sound. Had the db351 center in my limited and I feel the HK is lacking compared to the db351. Has anyone swapped the HK for the db351 center?

I may try it to see if it makes it closer to what I was used to. The rest of the system sounds amazing.

Greetings,

The HK Logic 7 surround processing handles the center channel differently than the Alpine DSP with Euphony surround processing.

This is the first time I have heard about this issue. I have heard the HK just a few times for short periods of time. I never concentrated on hearing the center channel. In the HK it very will be that the center is setup as band-pass xover filter that is excluding a portion of the hi frequency range. The Alpine does play into the lower hi frequencies. If this is the case, then the db 351 will improve on the mid range section only.

For S&G test, on the eq, drop down the all the lows and a little of the mids. Listen on the center if you can pick up any hi's with the music you know. This will help to see how the HK is setup.

Best for now.

Hi i have a 2014 GC blackhawk (a dressed up laredo)in aus. Would the wiring for the sub in the 9 speaker system be in mine? Or the wiring harness is completely different for each level of GC.
Any help would be much appreciated.
