I have the Focal speakers, but I'm using them with a factory base (6 speaker) audio system. I chose the Focals because they have the highest efficiency rating, therefore don't need a ridiculous amount of power to sound good.

I mentioned this in another discussion, and since I'm here right now, I'll post it here, too. When I first installed my Focals, about 6 months ago, I didn't use the Focal supplied, inline x-overs. There is/was a lot of discussion on this site, as to whether the OE radio has a built in x-over, and many folks thought that it did, so I simply wired up my Focals using the OE harness for the feed, and aftermarket adapters to make the connections.

I very recently got involved in a question/answer session at the Crutchfield Audio website, as I provided a customer review for my Focals. This, in turn, had a potential customer asking a couple of specific questions about my purchase/install. That got me curious, so I dug out my OE tweeters, to take a second look at them. What I initially overlooked, is that there's an inline resistor as part of the tweeter, effectively acting as an inline x-over. OK, the "lights went on" in my head, and I then realized that the OE radio is NOT providing a crossover function, it's sending a full range signal to ALL the speakers.

3 days ago, I pulled my front door panels, and installed the Focal x-overs, both the ones for the tweeters, as well as the ones for the woofers. I didn't have much of a chance to listen to the radio that day, but yesterday I was driving around for an extended period of time, giving me a chance to really listen to several different genres of music.

I will say that while I previously thought the Focals sounded considerably better than the OE speakers, the addition of the proper x-overs made them sound notably better yet. I should have taken more time on the original install.......

The infinity's have the same sensitivity as the focals which is why I chose them for the price. Not sure how they will sound but I figured it's worth a shot. I do have the alpine system in mine. That's good Info for the people that don't!

Where did you get your infinity speakers? The doors and the pillar tweeters?

It's raining like crazy so can't really work on the doors currently, so I took the time to remove my Polk db351 and install the infinity 3022. The Polk is a substantially heavier speaker and has a larger magnet and also looks like it's built better but straight off I think the tweeter on the infinity sounds better and the woofer sounds cleaner than the Polk.

Here you can really see the plus one deep woofer feature on the infinity (last pic) vs the Polk see how deep the woofer is in comparison? I think the infinity is just more efficient... And women say size matters :-p lol we'll see how this works out as the speaker breaks in. The Polk was fully broken in but this sounds cleaner already.

So are you saying that the clarity of the dash infinity speaker is clearer then the Polk? Like during in car phone calls, music etc?

100% instantly noticed the difference and its gotten better throughout the day. infinity > polk (as far as running on the factory amp). I'm trying to install the rear doors now the rain cut out for a few min but we'll see how long that lasts...

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

Ok so I finished up the rear doors so far and the center channel. These things kick ass! the rear door coaxials have a built in cross over that allows you to boost or lower the treble from the infinity tweeter by the push of a button on the tweeter.

They are so much better than the factory speakers I can't even explain how good this sounds and I haven't even changed the front 6x9's and tweeters yet.

The difference has blown me away. listening to the stereo at volume 16 now with the new speakers sounds like the stockers at 30!! The details you can hear now are great. I can't wait until tomorrow so I can finish installing the front door speakers. I'll post pictures up after!

This button that allows a treble boost,is it accessible all the time even after installation or do you have to click it on before installing the door panels..etc.

Only during installation. And you definitely want to leave it in the off position and point the tweeters down. Otherwise the rears totally drown out the front. It's good to have the option though.

I used double sided foam tape on the rear of the included bracket to prevent any rattling just Incase. You can see the tweeter pointed down here.
