Very nice "how to" guide. Do you think the Harmon/Kardon system would also benefit from the same upgrade or would it be unnecessary?

I would love to go this route, but I am afraid that I will be in the same boat I was with the Polk's that I tried and went back to stock...

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

I promise you if you just put in the fronts ISS 690's , you won't regret it at all!
Sell your set-up and get the Focals for the front at least. Scratch and dent price is around $237 with free shipping and wire adapters in 2 days.
I find myself spending more time in my Jeep, taking the longer routes and driving slower bc of the new sounds.
I've only installed the 690's and Polk db351 so far and am very pleased with just that. I can turn the speakers all the way to the fronts when my kids are in the back on devices and it still sounds like I'm surrounded in sound.
I'm putting in the db351's in the D pillars and ISC165's on Thursday, I'm in no rush though bc what I have in now sounds magnificent.

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

I noticed you can buy last year's IS 165 (6.5" components) for $149. I'm tempted to try them. That's $90 less than the ISS 690 6x9 scratch-n-dent from Crutchfield. I know the 6x9s will get slightly lower, and are slightly more efficient, but I doubt there would be $90 difference.

I'm also tempted to go with JL C2s. They would have a matching 3.5", and silk tweets. I'm worried the Focals will be a little harsh for my ears.

Another question, since you had to trim the sail panel for the Focal tweet, will the stock one go back in -- unnoticed?

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

It should go back in looking stock, but I didn't try yet. I only had to trim the inner lip a little. It may be a tiny bit loose, but some adhesive would fix that.
I'm keeping all my factory speakers so I can replace them back when I trade it in, later on.
I'm on a quick budget speaker upgrade and am mixing the Polk db351 and Focals, of course. I'm personally not going for a perfect balanced system quite yet, later on though. Most of the mods on my Jeep have come from recommendations in mod threads of members who have done it already.
Lol, look at my sig.

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

^ Thanks for the info. I thought it looked like the inner lip only needed trimming. It's nothing that a little hot glue won't fix for the next guy. My wife probably doesn't want me to touch the new Durango, but I'm afraid I'll have to. I already replaced the center speaker with an older (Korean-made) Alpine aftermarket 3.5". It's tweet is metal dome, so it may match the Focals OK.

Polk db351 For Sale $26 Shipped

I have 2 brand new Polk db351's for sale. I mounted the one on the right in the pic, so it has chips where the bolt goes. I bent tab ends up 90* to try to fit it in, they're straight and fine. They won't fit in D pillars so I thought I would offer them up here in case someone wants jut one and not pair. I have 30 days to send them back to Amazon, so I'll offer them up for a few weeks.
I paid $39.99 for this pair, I paid more for my first pair at Best Buy. I'm not Amazon so I can't offer free shipping so, $26 for (1) speaker shipped USPS Priority Mail here in the US.
I just got my 1st iTrader rating yesterday for selling my other Polk.
