Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

Rear Door Speaker install

Tools: Same as fronts.

1.) **Panel removal is the exact same procedure for the rears doors.**

2.) You will have to drill holes for the 165's, no biggy. I used a 3/32 bit to drill my holes. I'm going back in later to make a Dynamat enclosure for the rear of speakers and lay some on the inner door skin.

3.) Plug in the supplied connector and install your Focal with 4 screws. I ended up using the 3 original screws in the holes I drilled. They are more solid than the ones that come in the box.

That's it, slap on the panels and you're all set!

This is how my Scratch & Dent 165's arrived, absolutely perfect condition. My 690's were exactly the same way.
I hope this helps someone on a budget.

Thanks for the pics. I didn't think 3.5s would fit the D pillars, but I also don't think it's necessary to replace them in this case. It looks like the doors could benefit from some dampening as well. If I pull the panels, I always slap some SoundDeadenerShowdown CLD tiles in there.

With or w/o the grill mount. Here it is in the grill.

sorry, without the grille... just the actual tweeter (as pictured above next to the Focal tweeter).

I may upgrade my stock tweeters and just need to know what size tweeter will fit behind the stock grille.

What is the part number for the focal tweeters you used. Awesome step by step

^ Part numbers are all in the subject of his thread. The tweeters are part of the ISS 690 kit.

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

These are excellent instructions and beautiful pictures, very professional writeup.

So, I ordered the speakers from Crutchfield, followed the instructions and installed them.

And it does sound quite a bit better than the factory speakers. Reduced distortion, a little more clarity, no more buzzes. And I just have the simple AMFM/CD/Satellite radio 130. I won't bother doing the rear doors or add a sub. Just nice speakers up front really work for me.

Many thanks,
Rich
