So all together this upgrade came in under $500? Do you think it's worth the investment?

I jumped on the bandwagon and just received my focal 695, Polk DB351 and JL Audio Stealthbox 10w3v3 500 watt Subwoofer. I haven't ordered an amp for the subwoofer but leaning toward J L Audio. Any recommendations on the Amp would be appreciated. I plan on the Focal 165 for rear doors.

JL JX 250/1 or the JX 500/1. The 500 is a overkill for that sub, but people have used it. Just watch where you set the gain to.

I have the JX 250/1 ready to go for when i order my stealth box.

Greetings,

You could also look at the JL Audio XD 1000/5 v2. Another excellent amp.

XD1000/5v2 - Car Audio - Amplifiers - XD - JL Audio

Best for now.

Yes. A 5 ch amp will gain nothing, unless he puts a DSP in front of it.

Greetings,

I would recommend going with the JL Audio XD 300/1 v2 as your mono amp to push the stealthbox which is at 2 ohms. I have also listed other choice below.

XD300/1v2 - Car Audio - Amplifiers - XD - JL Audio

IMHO, you are better off using a class D amp to run with. A class D amp has better draw of electrical current and work more efficiently with JGC alternator. The traditional Class AB, you would need to add some caps, micro fad or reserve battery to protect the load if you are pushing hard. If you see your headlights dim when the bass is pushing hard, than you know.

The rule of thumb when it comes to bass, it good to have some headroom in the amp for when it comes time for dynamic gains. So I little more wattage won't hurt the amp or the speaker. If want to get the stealhbox to it's ideal volume range then you have to increase the wattage.

If you are running with the Alpine factory system, then do set the internal crossover of the sub amp. Let your new Focal Speakers and the sub break in first. Afterwards, if the bass is not to your liking than start playing with the crossover at 60hz.

If your budget allows you to step up than look into the new Focal FD amps, Helix Match line, or if you can still get the Pioneer Stage 4, the PRS-1200M. All of these the amps that will work for you.

Focal FD 1.350 Ultra-compact mono amplifier — 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

MATCH MA10FX Mono subwoofer amplifier — 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

Pioneer Stage 4 PRS-D1200M Mono subwoofer amp 600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

Hope this helps.

Best for now.

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

I would think your Focals would have sounded better with a better amp than the stock amp, especially helping the 6x9s. Harman does brag about the amp being "Jeep 1st" and "Class D" and all, and perhaps the amp is where a large portion of that $1995 "High Performance Audio" went.

But let's say you didn't get the HK system and started with the Alpine system, which I'm guessing is more common, the 5 channel amp becomes relevant, and I also think the amp even without a processor would help noticeably. Maybe upgrading the HK amp without DSP will do nothing, but I would think upgrading the Alpine amp even without the DSP will still noticeably improve the sound. The 5 channel amp will amp the 2(6x9), 2(6.5), and 1(8/10), while the stock amp continues powering the 1(3.5) up front and the 2(2.5) in the back

UNLESS: The individual channels are not seperately amped. I'm new to car audio but not to home theater, and in home theater all the good amps have individual channels amped separately. If that is NOT the case for the Alpine amp in the JGC, then just getting a dedicated bass amp would allow the Alpines to richly feed the rest of the smaller speakers. I have a good feeling that is NOT the case, but I can't start such a big project not knowing for sure.

Anyone know? Hard to get information like this, lol.

Paul

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

Volume isn't the issue with the Alpine system. It's designed horribly, and sounds bad. Boosting the existing signals will only make it louder -- which it doesn't need. In order to take full advantage of a 5 or 4 chn aftermarket amp, you'll need a DSP, or summing LOC in front of it. That's where you start getting into the big $$, and hours/days of install time.
