Thank you so much for the thorough and informative reply.

I will start with the door speakers which is counter to what the Sales Rep recommended and than see if I want to add the Stealth system.

I do prefer a natural sound and from your review will consider another speaker other than the focal tweeters based on the music that I listen to.

Thanks again!

Greetings,

No problems.

Believe or not, you can mix components in this case. You can use the Focal 6 inch drivers which are excellent across the line. Find your soft tweeter else were.

The trick of course is to find a shop that has access to what we call raw drivers, unless they agree to install the speakers as purchased by car owner.

Best for now.

Very disappointed here. I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland and had a shop to install the same set of Focals. Sound is now worse than before. Very distorded and there is a massive lost of bass. The person there recommended a 5 channel Alpine Amp=$800.00. I had the 9 speaker Alpine system..any idead what could be wrong?

Greetings and welcome,

Do you know how the shop wired up the amp? For example did they connect directly to the factory amp's output channels? Did you have both doors replaced and do you know if they used the passive crossovers? Are still using the factory stock sub?

It is not recommended to use the passive crossovers for the front door speakers if they connected directly to the amps output wiring. The factory amp contains a DSP that has preset crossover points and this will cause problems. For the front door woofer and tweeter is better to just a straight swap of the individual drivers. The rear door is no problem.

In the meantime if you can get access to the Alpine 5 channel amp:
First thing on the 5 channel amp make sure that the internal crossover settings are set to full range. Keep the volume on the 8.4 to lower. Next, set the gains to the lowest position on each channel. Now raise the volume on the 8.4 to a comfortable setting that you like but not blasting it. Next slowly raise the gain on the channel that has the sub woofer on it. Once you get a bass setting you like, bring up the other channels gain.
You should be bring in back to the shop and let them look at it. It is covered under warranty?

Hope this helps.

Best for now.

Re: Focals ISS 690, ISC 165 & Polk db351 install tutorial with pics

Hello there,

They just installed the focal speakers and did not touch the factory alpine stock amp. I really didn't see the install but I do have the stock alpine speakers back. IMO the whole thing sounded better before installing the focals. The from speakers now sound really bad. I'm so mad since I paid them $150 for the labor. They told me the focal speakers are not meant for a weak amp. They assured me that the Alpine PDX-V9 amp:Alpine PDX-V9 5-channel car amplifier 100 watts RMS x 4 + 500 watts RMS x 1 at Crutchfield.com will really make this set of focals sound great. Since they saw how unhappy I was, I was offered to have my stock set put back. Don't know what to do now. I don't mind spending the money but only if there is a real improvement.

Thanks for your help!

Greetings,

Your welcome.

Once you determine the cause of the problem and the system is set right, you have to give the focal speakers about 15-20 hours of break in. This is typical with most speakers. When I installed my HAT's, it took a little over 20 hours to break in.

Even with the amp you have, my controlling the gain control you still can match with the Focals.

Best for now.

Greetings,

I found that as they broke in, hour by hour, the better they sounded. The tweeters take no time at all. The woofers do not blast them as the surround starts to loosen up. After 20 hours I could tell the L6SE was hitting as it should be. Others here found the Stage 2 6x9 were getting better over time. At the end, everybody that I know that uses the HAT's love the final out come.

Best for now.

I have already took it back for them to double check and they said wiring is good. I have made up my mind. I want the original setup back but I'm out $150.00. It sucks!

Can I get by with Dynamat on a 10x10 section behind each speaker or will it not make a difference unless I do the whole inside of the door. That stuff is expensive.

Greetings,

Did they use the passive crossovers? And, do have the stock sub or something else?

What they should have done is take channels 1&2 for the left & right for the mids and channels 3&4 for the tweeters. Adjust the gains as needed.

If you are using the stock sub, than they should have sold you a 6 channel amp such as the JL audio XD 600/6. This way you can get you increased power and run this correctly.

Best for now.
