For those that have upgrade their audio system...

I have a few questions for those that have upgraded the speakers, etc in their WK2...

How easy is it to fish new speaker wire into the doors?

Where would be the best place for the amp? Under the front seats? Perhaps under the rear seats?

Any other tips/advice welcome.

Thanks!

I just recently did a complete overhaul. The doors arent as bad as you think. At first glance they look impossible but once you remove the boots and you will see there are open spots in the plastic wiring harness for you to fish your wire through it helps a ton.

I placed my amps under the rear tire well standing up in corners needed a little trimming with the dremmel. Also made to vent holes and attached computer fans to circulate the air.

I removed both passenger seat and rear pass seat for install. it helps to route the wires gorilla taped to the floor keeping the power away from the RCA's also Dynamted the door speakers and whole back end. Also added to tweeters in the front center cut to holes in the vent shroud placed them right next to each other. It helps with imaging and staging.

I have to say that truck is put together very well. the sound deadening used is pretty well done. All in all about 15 hours of install time then about an hour of tunning.

Re: For those that have upgrade their audio system...

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated!

With regards to the doors and especially running wires to the doors, can you please give more details? How exactly did you do it?.

I'm installing components in the front doors, so I'll attach the crossovers under the dash and run 2 wires into each door. Hopefully I can do it like that?

What speakers did you install? I'm very very curious about what you do. I would love it if you could go into greater details.

Thanks!

Well lets see..the doors once you have pulled off the door skin open the door all the way and you will see the rubber boot pull it away from the door and the fram of the car. The boot will now be free floating on the wireing harness." don't worry it will go back with no gaps." Disconnect the plastic harness from the frame using a small flat head screwdriver on the two front clips the back side will come with a little coaxing from your fingers give it a tug or two it'll come free. Once that is apart remove the kick panel inside the vehicle. Fish your wire from inside to out you might have room for the crossover in the door depending how big it is. It's easier to run one wire through the boot than two. Conncet your speakers and mount. I like to Dynamate the doors but thats up tp you. Do your self a favor research taking apart your doors before you go at it and by the apropriate tools for popping the plastic rivits. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated

I'm embarking on this project tomorrow. Thinking about taking some pics and perhaps do a write up.

I was thinking about that but when you lower the back seats they fold somewhat into the floor and having an amp under there would prevent the seats from lowering. Tried it today and no go. So I'm installing the amp under the front passenger seat.

So far both front doors are done. Major pain in the you know what. Won't be pulling the doors apart ever again. Total nightmare. But it's done so I'm happy. Tomorrow I'm hooking the amp and maybe I'll do the rear doors. At this point the 2 front doors were such a nightmare that I don't feel like tackling the rears right now. Perhaps next weekend.

Hi,

Did you replaced the front door tweeters as well??? After pulling the front door apart I tried to remove the original tweeter but the upper door trim won´t come off easy and I stoped trying to pulll it off with fear of breaking the clips...

So, to remove the upper door trim (the one that secures the tweeter) you just have to pull it out??? nothing breaks appart?? and how do you fix new tweeters in there (original tweeters are smaller than typical aftermarket ones).

Thanks

Pablo

Re: For those that have upgrade their audio system...

The top trim piece which holds the tweeter is easily removable. You have to cut the 2 little clips on each end though. I used 3M double sided exterior grade tape as a replacement (very sticky stuff!).

I replaced the stock 1" tweeters with aftermarket 1" Alpine Type-R silk tweeters (part of Alpine SPR-50C speaker set). The bare tweeter fit perfectly behind the stock tweeter grill. I used a few dabs of PL Premium (construction adhesive) to secure the tweeters. Looks stock, but sounds WAY better.
