Re: Free Sirius almost over, are you going to renew?

I got what I felt was a good deal on xm in out little chevy spark, $80 for the year, tried to get the same deal on the jeep but as they are a different (by that I mean the same) company, no dice. So back to cashing in my air miles points for gift cards for service.

edit, meant to add, I gave them, and reminded them, that the credit card # I gave them expires in May.

The only good thing about it is the music and information variety because the sound is terrible so I'm on the ledge about renewing because now I'm streaming slacker and live 365 via Bluetooth from my iPhone and it sounds very good and will be better once I swap out the stock speakers. . There's always iheart and pandora if you're a lover of those.

ONE word...HOWARD. Once SiriusXM loses Howard (retirement), the company will fall apart unless they have a miraculous backup strategy or a drastic pricing adjustment. Whether you like the guy is a whole different story, but no one can dispute that he's single handedly carrying Sirius.

Sirius - You've got my $$$ in 4 vehicles plus iPhone streaming subscription until Howard100 is gone...LOL

Probably one of the main reasons I did not renew.
I have high bitrate MP3s loaded onto my hard drive (5GB worth) that give me MUCH better sound.

Did you know that satellite is only around 64kbit/s?
My 'smallest' MP3 is 128, most of mine are 240 or better.

The other reason I dropped it.
I didn't see (hear?) that it was any better than regular radio. About 1 song per hour would be one I like. With MP3s loaded on the hard drive EVERY song is one I like.

Actually, many of the channels are less than that. Sirius/XM uses a proprietary, variable bit-rate, bandwidth allocation scheme that allows them to divide their total bandwidth among the channels, with some channels assigned more bandwidth than others. For instance, Watercolors has very nice audio, 60's On Six is much less but Patriot and the other 'speech only' channels have the equivalent of around 24kbits/s.

...I imagine the Sirius/XM All Korean Midget Tag Team Wrestling channel has even less!

Hell yea! Can't go without listening to Howard.

Expert tip: don't renew when they call or mail. Wait about 5 days and you'll get an offer for $25 for 6 months. Activate this. Call to cancel in 6 months so it won't automatically renew, wait 5 days ... Wash, rinse, repeat. Done it for years. Yea, it's cheating the system.

Re: Free Sirius almost over, are you going to renew?

Greetings,

I had Sirius since 2005 until last month when I dropped it when I began using my Pioneer AppRadio as my headunit. For a while I was using their online app which has better sound quality than over the satellite. The extra online channels and some of the other features allow you to program the content.

However, the other internet music sources when using their premium audio quality options was far better than Sirius. I am using Pandora, Aupeo, Spotify and iHeartRadio with great satisfaction. For the top of the line package I paid with Sirius, I am now paying less than half for better programming and sound quality. I will get another app later to cover the sports and news that I miss with Sirius.

If you are in area that has bad cellphone coverage, than Sirius is your option. But I would get the cheapest package. Cellphone coverage in the coming years will improved dramatically.

Best for now.

Re: Free Sirius almost over, are you going to renew?

I have never activated Sirius or XM in any vehicle. The deals they keep writing me about on my '11 MDX (traded in on the Jeep) get better and better. I think if I hold out long enough they will buy my MDX back for me, and pay me to listen to their stations.
